Subject: Deb I fell the same way as you do about Cosby. He is a good man who says what needs to be said. Too many are eager to condemn but not listen. eom CG

Subject: Deb I hate to break it to you but Bill Cosby has not said anything that hasn't been said before in the Black community. He is not some sort of pioneer. What irritates a lot of us is this idea that the rest of us common Black folk are tied to some idea of victimhood and that all we need is a good talking to. The ideas of education, self help, and personal responsibility are not new in our community believe it or not. I got some more news for you. Contrary to what the media shows you, there are more than 2 Black leaders in our community. We are so much complex than either Al or Jesse or Bill for that matter. I think you would be stunned to know how many Black leaders, doctors, lawyers, educators, entrepreneurs, and philanthropists there are in the Black community. And unlike Mr. Cosby many of these people are on the ground, opening schools, business incubators and giving scholarships, in other words they are doing something concrete instead of just giving speeches. So while White America stood and cheered Mr. Cosby for saying what you all thought we needed to hear, like it's never been said before and thank God one of their own finally told them because God knows a White person can't say it without being called a racist I can guarantee you he has not said anything that hasn't already been said. And finally I don't know of a lot of people calling him a racist; self-righteous maybe but not a racist. I think a lot of folks are more irritated by reactions similar to yours, Mr. Cosby your new Black hero..........CleoJ

Subject: I know you're right, Cleo, but I think what caught the attention of lots both white and black is it was Bill Cosby.......because of his name recognition. The average person and all the guys you mentioned, can preach the same thing, but without the BIG name folks won't know about it. It's just how it it, Cleo, however much we hate to admit it. Sorta like when Magic came forth about his AIDS. Wow, I wonder how many kids Magic saved with his announcemnt? Lots!! I bet................Kate
