Topic: What's the hardest part of being human?

Topic Posted by: Zach

Additional Comments: I think it's all the incredible amount of time we spend worrying, being afraid and so emotionally invested in so many things that are not good for us.  Sometimes, I picture myself, in a kind of visualization exercise, throwing all those anxieties and crap into a large black garbage bag, tying it up, and hurling into a dumpster so I can say "No more. I refuse to let myself feel any more of this" and walking away, not looking back.

I think one of the biggest thing many people can't seem to do is ...take responsibility for their actions.  It isn't always someone else's fault.

Death, seeing another human being die.  I used to think dealing with idiots was, dealing with people with no feelings, but you can easily walk away from them and the silent treatment does work...now that I've experienced death - it's very hard on the human spirit to bear.

HEALTH ISSUES is what I consider the hardest part about being human. When I was younger I didn't think about what I ate or if I exercised or not, but now that I am "elderly" and my breathing problems get worse and my spine gets weaker, it's come back to haunt me.  Today all I can do is try to maintain what I have.

  • PIXIE!!!!! Hi there young lady. Long time no see! I just got back to posting here and the only person I still knew was Cassie's Grandma! How ya been doing?? GailJ
  • If you make your health a bigger priority, then you can reverse many things. You rebuild your bones, and your stamina. This is just a message board but I am a personal trainer. You definitely can empower yourself. it can be discouraging when you have lost so much, and to start again in a wekaer condition but it can happen. eom/ZAch
  • Zach, Pixie's health issues are not the mind over matter kind or the type that can be reversed through physical conditioning, unfortunately. ~i&b
  • i&b, you are so right......my severe scoliosis is a big problem, since with time gravity is making me lose height. My chest area was always had less capacity for my lungs to expand, but now with the osteoporosis, it's getting worse. I am doing my best, but I know eventually I just won't be able to breathe. Good news though! The Forteo I have taken for a year for osteoporosis is helping me. My bone scan showed a significant strengthening of my bones. But it still won't give me the capacity I need to breathe normally. I have pulmonary hypertension, and that is just as good as saying,
  • Ooops! Forgot about the quotes..........it should read saying, ''bye bye, Pixie.'' ..........Pixie

For me the hardest thing about being human is having to see the cruelty of some human beings.

Last night on the news, someone with a camera phone photographed a woman throwing a puppy around.  I wouldn't even post it here if I could. It was obscene.  I am thankful for the good person who took the pics and turned them in but its still hard knowing a human can be so cruel.

Its ongoing and of course not just animals.  Robbers shooting someone who complied with their demands.

I can't think of anything more troubling than mans inhumanity to man or beast.

How does that throwing away all your anxieties in a garbage bag work for you, Zach?  It certainly would be easier than carrying them around!

  • At church we wrote all our problems and anxieties that we have no control over on a piece of paper then we all took them to the altar and burned them in a metal container. Felt kinda refreshing at the time. GJ
  • these things just weigh us down. its hard to get rid of them, but if we did, we would liv much happier lives. eom.Zach

I would say for many people it's consciousness of our own mortality.  While some people are inspired by the feeling that life is a gift that can end at any time, others become fearful and afraid to take chances.  It's all in how you view it but overall I'd say facing your mortality ranks right up there.

  • I know you're right. A lot of people don't want to face their mortality. I didn't even think about when I was young and now that I'm old I find that there is comfort, almost, in knowing there is an *end*. But that's just me. ~Duffy
  • Ingy what do you think?
  • SM, inside. ~i&b
  • Thanks,
  • I'll tell Little E of your approval. LOL! ~i&b
  • some people are freaked out by death. I am NOT. I don' see what death has to do with taking chances, though scares of death such as a stroke could wake someone up to life. I believe this life is but one of many in this dimension, and we all continue on aside from that too. Not everyone does, but because i do, it makes some things alot easier. eom/Zach
