Topic: Tomorrow morning is my first weigh-in...

Additional Comments: It's been a long week of exercising and moderating and documenting my eating, but I've gotten through my first week with no missed workouts, and no cheating on the diet! I'll be weighing/measuring myself early tomorrow morning, and I hope to see some results, whether it be in pounds or inches. As soon as I get that information, I'll post my results here. I started at 149 lbs, and I hope to get to 147. We'll see though...I have been doing strength training as well. Hopefully I'll have good news to share in the A.M. :)

I'm just checking in to post that I am currently at 148 even...so that's a 1.2 pound loss since my starting weight was actually 149.2. Yea!! This was really a trial week to get my diet figured out and get into a mindset. From here on out, I hope to have satisfactory results, but I'll take whatever comes my way in its own time.

i support anyone who wants to lose weight for their own health and happiness.  so, go for it Camochick.

that being said, i have two personal memory references of women i dated years ago, one taller (5' 9"ish), the other a medium height for a woman (about 5' 5+" or so), and these were two of the finest i have ever known at 150 pounds!

so, while i encourage you to reach your goal, you probably already know that someone likes you just as you are.  don't hurt yourself in this process.  i hope it is enjoyable as you go along.

  • I know women who carry weight well...my problem is I am not toned, and the extra weight is affecting my overall running capability, and I need to be able to run in the military. That being said, I am being very cautious about how much I lose, how quickly I lose it, and in what ways I lose it. This is just about making changes in my food choices, cutting out the useless crap, and getting more active. When my uniforms start getting too tight, something's got to change. Not to mention, I am over my required weight for the military, so even if I looked great at my current weight, if I don't do something about it, it could be grounds for getting kicked out of the military, and I certainly don't want that. No matter what, I won't let myself get too low.

Just hang in there Camochick.  It sounds like you're doing all the 'right' things, it's just going to take time.  Like somebody said below, it takes a lot longer to lose those final 5lbs or so...  Be patient. :)

  • Thanks, faysie! I am trying to be patient, but it's hard sometimes. The important thing to do is to stick to it, and right now, I am sticking to both the diet and exercise. I have even started incorporating protein bars into my diet when I strength train.

Ok...I just realized what I did wrong. When I weighed myself this morning, I had clothes on, and when I realized this, I had already eaten breakfast. So, due to that, I am going to re-weigh myself tomorrow morning and get a more accurate weight. I can't believe I made such a rookie mistake! I'll post the new weight tomorrow! OOPS! :(

  • I've found the best thing to do is to weigh yourself first thing in the morning in the bathroom after you've ... um... had a personal moment (if you know what I mean). ~i&b

I started a diet detox yesterday. This will be the 3rd time I've done this detox in under 2 years. From what I recall, day 3 is the worst as that's when the caffeine withdrawal headache is at it's peak. For me that will be tomorrow. The first time I did this detox, I lost 12 lbs in 2 weeks. Granted, most of that weight was probably water but apparently my body was holding onto water it shouldn't have. I am always amazed at how wonderful I feel once the withdrawal symptoms have passed. Good luck with your weight loss venture.

  • Thanks, Liz! I had problems with headaches first thing in the morning for the first few days, and then I would eat breakfast, and they would go away just like that! Now, I don't even wake up with headaches anymore. Good luck with what you are doing!

Well...I got up this morning at 5am and weighed myself, and I did lose weight, but not as much as I was hoping for. I started at 149.2 last Monday, and this morning I weighed 148.4. I do have a lot of muscle mass and the strength training might explain why I didn't lose as much as I was hoping for. My BMI went up though, so I don't know why that is. I drink up to 9 glasses of water a day, and no soda or coffee. I was kind of prepared to not lose any weight at all since I am lifting weights, so I am glad I lost something. My workout pants which have a tight elastic band in them are a bit less difficult for me to get on, so I am taking that as a good sign. I'll just keep doing what I am doing, and see if next Monday produces better results. If not, I may cut out some calories somewhere. I won't get discouraged yet. Thanks everyone for the encouragement! :)

  • CC, one thing to remember is that if you don't have a lot of weight to lose it will come off slowly. If someone is trying to lose 50 lbs. they might lose 4 lbs. in a week. If you're trying to drop 5 lbs, it could take a month to lose 4 lbs. The closer you are to an ideal weight, the more your body fights the weight loss. Doesn't mean you can't do it, it just takes longer. ~i&b

Good luck! Though from what I've read, you should have no problem losing those two pounds! :)

Just a quick note so you don't have to read two posts: HFCS = High Fructose Corn Syrup (you'd be amazed at everything they needlessly put this in now). MSG = Monosodium Glutamate - hard to avoid completely, but imo, good to limit). Also, with whole wheat, be sure to read labels. If it isn't 100% or lists the word "enriched", you might as well be eating white. Keep us posted!

  • Thanks for the clarifications, Paige! I definitely check the labels for my whole wheat products to make sure they are 100% whole wheat flour. I learned that lesson awhile ago when I was eating the enriched crap thinking I was eating what I should have been. I'm a little bummed that I didn't lose the 2 pounds, but I think about what I've accomplished this week and I feel better. I eat healthier, more regularly, am never hungry, am exercising a lot more and with regularity, sleep better, and just feel more alert throughout the day. I'm just happy that I lost some weight, even if it was less than I was hoping for. I have to start somewhere, and I am a smaller person to begin with, so dropping the weight is going to be a bit tough. It'll happen.

Good luck today.  If you've done everything right you'll be in good shape.

I'm sure you know this but muscle weighs more than fat.  Be sure to drink plenty of water.  I weigh first thing every morning before eating or drinking anything.

I was p-ssed last week when in one day the scale showed 2 lbs more.  I filled and chilled some 36 oz water containers and saw that I drank two during next day.  The following morning the scale showed the 2 lbs gone.

Actual flesh can't come and go in one night so drinking that water has a bearing on what the scale shows.  All diet plans emphasize that

If you have done what you should have you will have lost fat.  You sound like a determined person.  Report back.

  • Thanks serialmom. I do weigh myself before anything else in the morning. I also weigh myself at the same time each day in the same location. I'll just do what I did this week and hope for better results next Monday.
