Well, it's gonna be a long summer of recovery for me, but after the school year I had I'll have plenty of time for R&R.
I had major surgery last Thursday (it's a girl thang - I'll leave it at that-LOL). And it's the best surgery I could have had. The doctor said had I waited any longer, further complications would have followed and I would eventually had been taken to the emergency room.
I was discharged on Monday and it feels so good to eat solid foods again. After all, how much geletin and broth can a girl eat? The second they sprung me from the hospital, I asked my mom to pick me up a chicken Ceasar salad and frosty from Wendy's. It also feels good to be home, watching my own tv, eating my own food, sleeping in my own bed, and hanging out on the wood deck.
The doctor said my recovery time will be 6-8 weeks. However, I should be able to drive in a couple of weeks. In the meantime, though, I can't walk up and down stairs, lift any heavy objects, or do any other rigorous activities. This is kicking me in the butt because I'm so used to being on the go. I don't know what to do with myself, and I've only been home since Monday (lol).
My hubby and mother have been a true blessing during this time. My mom scheduled her two-week vacation around the time of my surgery so she could help me out. Mom even took me to my follow-up appointment this morning so I could get my staples out. Hubby, meanwhile, has been here and there running errands and filling in with the tasks that I normally do.
I've had to put my job search on hold, however, because I can't go on any interviews right now and I'm finding that some of the preschools I've sent resumes to are looking to hire ASAP and want the applicant to start immediately after hire, which I cannot do at this time. One preschool director still wanted me to come in for a second interview less than a week after my procedure, even after I explained my situation to her and told her I would be unable to drive after the surgery and my mobility would be limited. Hubby and my mom think the preschool director was being inconsiderate, and I agree. So that's one I'm scratching off my list.
Anyway, I'll be keeping myself occupied with checking my e-mails, reading some books (including The Audacity of Hope by Barack Obama), identifying some more schools I can send resumes to, watching DVDs, reading my Bible/Sunday School lessons, and of course posting here on the board. Hopefully, I'll be around and about by the beginning of August.

Message: Hi there Peaches. It sounds like you had what I had at the end of Feb. No fun being in the hospital. I was there for 3 days. I think it was the best thing I could do too. Although I am still a little tender in the abs. After all this time! I am actually going to see the dr. about that on Monday. What a coincidence that you would post today right after I made the appt.
On another note.......are you aware that Wendy's is messin with the Frosty?!?! I grew up with these and am so fond! Please tell me the original is still available? Unharmed in any way!

Message: Peaches I am so glad you are feeling better and every week you will keep feeling even better. How wonderful it is that you have such good support. Take care of yourself. Don't worry about the job search. You are a great teacher and when you are ready I am sure you will not have any trouble finding a new position.

Message: Glad to hear everything went well for you Peaches. I've only been back on this board for a couple weeks so you probably don't know who I am, but you will see that I like to "talk"...A LOT! LOL...but seriously, I wish you a speedy and not-so-painful recovery. Take advantage of all the pampering while you can and try not to do too much too soon. Sometimes our body tricks us into thinking we are back to normal then we think we can go back to doing the old stuff way too soon. Enjoy your time off while you can.
