So color me duh..........

I am interested in getting a remote car starter.  You would be too if you were outside working on the windshield at 5:30 am when it's 20 below.

Where is it hooked up to?

What do you do to the car so that it starts without you in it starting it?

What is the difference between keyless entry and not?

How much does it cost to get them installed?

Do they cause problems with a car at all?

Thanks :-)

There are many car starters out there. One way ones are the cheapest but you won't know if the car has started or not unless you can look outside and see the running (or parking) lights on. 2 way ones send a signal to the remote telling you if the car started. I woud get a 2 way one that doesn't interfere with the car's security system. Viper and Nordic are good brands.

Most will run for about 15 minutes before they turn off or you can turn it off manually so no worries about accidentally starting the car and having it run out of gas. I've started mine by accident once.

Where is it hooked up to? it's a remote control device hooked to your car's starter. Near the rearview mirror is where the installer will locate the remote communication device. I am sure you've seen them on other vehicles....there's usually a flashing blue light.

What do you do to the car so that it starts without you in it starting it?  I think you mean about how you start the car....there is a remote with a button. Some you press once and some you press twice. When you last leave the car shut it down then turn the heater fan on full so you'll have heat. If you have a manual transmission you have to set the starter before you get out of the car. It's a bit of a pain, but the only way around it.

What is the difference between keyless entry and not?  answered below, but for the last 10 or so years, I believe almost all cars come with them standard. Some come with factory installed starters or the dealership will install them before delivery. If your vehicle isn't that old I would go to the dealership and ask them if they install them or recommend someone who will. You do have to be careful about your warranty, so make sure you have it installed by someone who is certified to do so.

How much does it cost to get them installed?  get one that includes installation in the price. the costs can vary depending on the brand and type (one way or two way) starter you choose.

Do they cause problems with a car at all?  they can if not properly installed. A co-worker had one improperly installed and it started a fire under the hood of his new car. Of course the installers were liable, but make sure you go to a reputable place.

keyless entry is where you have a remote on your keychain that will open the doors of the car. Wouldn't be without it! The car starter is also a button on the key chain that starts the car. Tony had one on his pickup when we were in IA. I don't remember what it cost but I do remember they said if he sold the car they would put it on the new one for free.
Not all your questions answered but a start. I don't blame you for wanting one! Sometimes I want one here when it's 110 in the car!! 1
