Liz, you amaze me. I was going to mention 'Surely' too ( our Sly) but didn't think anyone would remember that far back. Good Job! lol. eom J-L

I miss Gene so much, but it is lovely to see his face again. Thank you for posting those photos CG.
He will never know the effect he had on my life. Gene was so generous, helping out when I was experimenting with posting photos, links, etc. In those days, we had to hard code everything. It seems like a lifetime ago. With Gene and Pixie's guidance, I learnt enough basic HTML to get me started and this gave me the confidence to learn more because I found out that it wasn't hard. Now, I am a web manager for a Government Department and am doing all sorts of flash things with our website (about to introduce video on demand to our site...step aside You-Tube!). I credit Gene and Pixie and the rest of the kind folks on this board for giving me the push to get me started.
Y'know, Gene was the first person to get flamed on this board. He posted a topic called "What did you have for breakfast?", and amongst the replies of cornflakes, toast and coffee, somebody named ScoobyDoo took deep offence and went to town on him for asking such a "stupid question", and it was on for young and old. So funny....
So many good people have come into our lives via this board. Gene, Mona, OC, so many more. I think about OC a lot. The last email I got from her when she was so sick was that she was really worried for the future of her country in the hands of Dubya. She feared that he would take the country into a war without end, and in that she was right. I reckon she is smiling down on us now seeing what has happened to Dubya's popularity and that there is a real alternative to vote for this time, but sad too that so many people have had their lives torn apart by Dubya's ineptitude. Sorry, I didn't mean to get political when remembering such a beautiful friend.

I was hoping you would see this and give us your comments. You and Pixie probably have the most history with Gene. He would help anyone no matter if he had a huge argument with them the night before. I remember one time he got in really bad trouble with some after he defended someone here. (Turned out he was wrong but none the less he would defend any poster against insults.) I am glad my post brought back fond memories to so many. eom CG
Hey there RoseBush. I didn't know that Gene helped you with computer stuff but what I do remember is how interested he was in your postings on the more controversial or political topics. He really liked to be challenged and to have meaningful dialogue. I saw that he popped in on your postings often and enjoyed bantering back and forth with you. Gee, a man who enjoyed conversing with Intelligent women... who knew they existed!!! (smile) eom J-L
Hi J-L. Yeah, Gene and I agreed on nearly everything, but we had two big fights. The first was over some frippery...American Foreign policy, I think. The other, which was far more serious, was whether the Leather Elvis was better than the Las Vegas Elvis. I said Leather, Gene nearly ripped my head off because he reckoned the Las Vegas Elvis (who was just a hunk-a-hunk-o-burnin' love) was tops. When I said Las Vegas Elvis was flatulent, I could feel Gene's thunder coming through my computer screen. lol....Rose Bush....eom
ROFL on the Flatulant Elvis image - lost a bit a gas myself just reading this!!!! Yes I had a fight with Gene too, over the Viet Nam war. He felt that it was a necessary war and generally respected the ideals behind it whereas I blasted the whole thing, top to bottom. We agreed not to hash it over again. And by the way - there is only one Elvis... LEATHER ELVIS !!! eom J-L

I miss Gene very much and still remember some of the advice he gave me and others on here. I loved his stories of the olden days. My kids even know of Gene because I've mentioned something he used to say, to them. I wish some people hadn't given him such a rough time when he was sick at the end. Thanks for this post CG.

Gene was one of the first people I got to know when I first started posting here. He knew how to get a lively discussion going and had a good sense of humor. Thanks for the tribute CG; Gene is definitely missed.

There he is, my big brother, Gene!!! That's what he called himself when referring to me. Last time I saw him in person, he told Adam to take care of his little sister. We hated to see him go. He was like family.
Thanks for posting this, CG. Gene was an unforgettable guy, and I am so happy I met him and his family.

I was always a tad jealous that you met in person!! How is Adam doing? eom CG
Yes, my little Pixters, You, Gene, Sly and me kinda bonded soon after the site was created. I think we spent more time communicating here than we spent watching Y&R. We rarely even discussed the show, but I remember the time we were all asked who we resembled most on Y and R and Gene said that he looked most like Kay Chancellor. (cause they are both old) LOLOL. Remember we even talked together on ICQ. It was a long time ago, maybe close to 15 yrs ago. You were a good and supportive friend to our Gene and I know how much he valued your friendship. eom J-L

Hey, thanks for posting this, CG.
I, too, miss Gene and OC. What a great pair here at MD. I loved those old days.
When that 'other board' was doing their thing, Gene and i were involved in some rather fun duplicity. The emails zinged back and forth. He was a character.
He was a good man.
*thanks again, cg, for the memories.

Thank you for posting this.
My family uses the recipe his wife Thelma shared with me for our Christmas dinner every year. It's called Christmas ribbon jello salad.
One time Gene mailed me a magazine that he thought I would enjoy reading. How very thoughtful of him. He was a very good person and very missed.

I really miss Gene, too. I always looked forward to his posts, even the few that made me nash my teeth, but mostly, Gene made me smile. I saved his (and OC's) e-mails for a long time, but lost them in a computer crash. I wish I had printed them, as I did all his computer instructions, which I have in a binder.
Can't you just imagine Gene and OC up there kibitzing, about all the politics that have been happening, since they left us? I hope they're proud of the way we've carried on.

LOL, Midge. I just put my Gene University Binder on the bookshelf this past week. Golly, he taught me a lot about posting. (to the chagrin of many , maybe! LOL) ....Kate

Thank you SO much for posting this tribute to Gene! It is especially nice getting to see that pic of him. Gene & I were good friends for several years. I remember late night chats on ICQ & he emailed me a lot right before his cancer diagnosis. I left those emails in my inbox for a long time after he died. I just couldn't think of deleting them. I'll always remember Gene very fondly. I wonder how Thelma & the rest of his family are doing. Last I heard, she had moved back to Pennsylvania.

yes I remember Gene often. Usually when I am in my car as he gave me some driving advise I still follow everytime I drive. He was a generous person. I made quilt for his family. I used to get an email from his daughter occasionally and once in awhile she would pop in here. But haven't seen her in ages. eom CG+
CG, would it be possible for you to send her the comments we have written here about her Dad. Having lost a father myself, I know how very meaningful and touching it would be for Gene's family to know how much we all like and appreciated him. eom J-L

Ah yes, JannyB, the first charter member of the Wild Woman Posse. along with TexAss Jan. Gene never did quite understand that one. LOL! He was so great at conversing with all of us, young and old, computer savvy, or not, Liberal or Conservative, wild or sedate ---- he made us all feel valued. eom J-L
