Additional Comments: June 17th, a small 2 1/2 year old boy was abandoned at Frankfort Wal-Mart. Frankfort is a small town about 35 miles east of here. It has a large Hispanic community. A woman took the little kid into the store and left him with a note in his backpack that said they were from Guatemala, that her husband had deserted them 10 months ago and that she could not financially keep her little son.
Indiana has a law that a baby 45 days old or less may be left at a hospital or police station, no questions asked. The law, of course, is to help young mothers who find themselves unable to keep a baby.....and to keep the baby from being abandoned.
Moral ethics? Shouldn't the law apply to little kids like Martin (the wal-mart boy)?
Comments, please.

Message: I agree w/ you, Kate. Regardless of the child's age, there should be a law that they should be taken to a safe place.

Message: They have a law like that here too, but sadly some people still choose not to take advantage of it and dump them in unsafe places anyhows. I agree, they should cover a child of any age in this instance.

Message: Geez, what kind of person leaves their child at Walmart. Definitely they should be able to take them to a SAFE place if they are that desperate. What a world.

The law should make it easy for ANY mom or dad to surender a child of any age to a proper, safe environment without to many questions being asked. It would have been a lot less tramatic for the child to have mom explain that he was going to live with some nice people who could care for him. That way she still could have contact with him as she tries to get herself back on her feet financially, healthwise or for what ever reason she couldn't care for him anymore. Of course, this woman may have been an illegal alien so she couldn't go to the authorities without being deported. At least she didn't sell him, abandon him outside, or physically harm him...that's points in her favor.
Think of what an ugly person Victor Newman has become in his personal relationships from being abandoned at a orphanage on Christmas eve, no less. LOL
