Topic: Wanted to catch up on YOUR life now.....

Additional Comments:

Please take a few minutes and catch me up on what's been happening in your life.  Anyone pregnant? getting married? in love? sick? loved one sick? etc.,

What has happened in your life in September and October?  Anyone start their Christmas shopping yet?

I saw that Sparky on DOOL board lost her MIL, I am deeply grieved to hear that.  I kept wondering in the hospital how she was doing.

I have an idea:  We should pick 3 or 4 people on this board and give them our phone number and if anyone is sick or needs help, the person with our phone numbers can call the sick person and ask how they are and then can post their status on this board.  This way no one will worry or if we live nearby, we can cook up something for them and their family.  What do you think?

Actually, that may not be a good idea because in my case I wasn't home, I was in the hospital.  So what good would having my phone number have done?  DUH on me!!!! lol.

And who brings a laptop to the hospital when you go to the emergency room?  Oh wait Doctor, I left my laptop at home, may I go back and get it? LOLLLLLLLLLLLLL   I'm bleeding to death, but I think I need my laptop (just having some fun here - it's about time I start laughing again).

Mostly, just status quo cept... spent a week last month hanging out with friends in NYC and Philly! NYC was (as always) epic!! Then, the following weekend was the annual Hummingbird Festival here in our little town. This past weekend I hung out in the ATL with friends and then went to the So Long Springfield event! Had such a blast, but I always do with them (see the first part of my post!)!! LOL

Now it's time to slow down and save $$$ for birthday presents (both my nieces are in the next few weeks!) and then Christmas!!

Hi Donna~

First of all, I'm really glad that you are alright. As to what's been happening on my end, not much has happened significantly in the past couple months. I found out in late August that I am deploying with the Air Force to Germany in January for 4 months. I also started a weight loss/diet challenge with my friends, and I am trying to lose a certain amount of weight by the time I deploy by changing my eating habits for the better and ramping up the exercise (both cardio and strength training)...so far, I am doing well on that. I am losing weight consistently every week (going into week 3), but I had the flu this week, so I missed out on 5 days of exercise. I resume working out tomorrow.

I just celebrated my 33rd birthday this past Wednesday (the day I got sick...go figure!) Other than that, it's been pretty slow on my front. No personal news to share at this point, but with me leaving just around the corner, I am hesitant to get out there and meet a guy at this point. When I get back from Germany though...it's game on! LOL

Glad to see you back on the boards! :)

  • Well Happy Belated Birthday! Sorry I missed it. Please don't start exercising until you are feeling a hundred percent. I did that and still wasn't feeling well and I passed out when I was sick - not this time, but last year. Maybe you will meet someone in Germany like Elvis Presley met Priscilla.....Keep us posted, okay?

Hi there! Well lets see.....both of my kids are in school this year so that has been an adjustment. I am taking golf and tennis lessons. Golf is HARD!!! My kids are taking them so I figured "hey, I've always wanted to learn too"

My aunt bought a house in Aspen so I have been up there a few times. My husband and I went away for 4 days BY OURSELVES!!!!! First time since we had kids. (my oldest is 8) My mother stayed with the kids. If you knew our history you would know what a landmark event this was!!! I have had a recurring kidney infection. Not good. I got a CT Scan last week. The IV kind. So we shall see what turns up.

I took my daughter to her first concert. Miley Cyrus. That was a trip! Today was my grandmother's 78th birthday so about 12 of us went to Pappadeaux. My dad and stepmother came up. We don't get to see them much.

My husband took my son to their first Y Guides campout. It was declared "The BEST weekend EVER". I'll say!!! Archery, horseback riding, smores, ghost stories, bonfire, sailing, hiking, BB guns! Oh and he found an arrow head. And a nugget of "gold" Surprise surprise! Each and every boy "found" his own piece of "gold"

    Theres probably more.......

  • You sure have a busy life. I'm worried about that kidney infection you have. Are you on something for it? What is causing it? Glad you and hubby got away and your mom babysat for you, very nice indeed. It's good to see everyone and hear what's going on in their lives. (((huggss))))

I've been super busy at work (counting my blessings.)  I'm in two different mangement programs (which aren't part of my regular work) that i've been trying to do at home, but it is really difficult b/c the hubby gives me a hard time when I get on the computer after being on it all day long at work.

My son moved to New Orleans, and I've hardly heard from him since.  I think he wanted to get far away from his family.  I guess I can understand that at 25.  I gave him a mini laptop for his birthday in September, but I haven't even gotten an email.

I lost my cell phone last month and really didn't care.  I hate cell phones.  However, since I still have to pay for the monthly plan until the plan is up, I decided to go ahead and replace it.  I upgraded to a different model and got it on eBay.  We'll see how it goes.

Hubby's work has been sporadic and it drives me crazy, but I'm just thankful that we aren't hurting ...economically.  The rest of my family is in dire straights.

Just started doing my Christmas shopping, and so far, I've done all of it online.  Had to warn hubby that we were going to start getting a lot of deliveries from UPS and that he'd better mind his own business!

  • I'm thankful you aren't hurting economically too. Sounds like you are doing well. Your son probably just wants to be independent for a while, why don't you email him? Glad to see you posted and caught me up on your life. I have missed everyone on this board. (((huggss)))

    Thank you for asking!

I have been very busy re-doing my kitchen. I had someone put new flooring down. My friend and I removed the old (ugly) wallpaper and painted the walls, ceiling, and cabinets. It looks SO much better. I still have to do the upstairs bathroom, upstairs hall (not that big) and my back porch. It's been a lot of work, but now that I see results, I am impressed and happy. we've been working so hard I haven't been here as much as I'd like to. And now I was just asked by my brother to help paint his new garage. It's huge too. It's a mechanic's one that he will be using for his own business, so it's going to be a lot of work. But since it's getting cold and I haven't waxed my car or van for the winter, I need to use his warm garage, so I couldn't say no!!

  • I'm glad you're enjoying your new kitchen, the wallpaper is gone, it's painted and you have a new floor. Sounds pretty to me. Painting a garage isn't fun, but will be worth it in the end...glad to see your post.

Tony worked all of Sept and Oct and just got home yesterday. He came home for Sat, his day off. But now he is done for another year. I love that he only works about 6 weeks a year.
I have been taking an adult ed class from the local Rabbi. I always enjoy him. And a Galveston history class that has been pretty boring. I can't believe people can make it boring when this town is full of so many wonderful stories. Today's class was good though.
And last week I went on a road trip with some women friends and quilted for 4 solid days. It was wonderful. And right now the weather is fantastic.
And I am still volunteering at the free medical clinic our daughter runs. Yesterday I was paid the highest compliment I have ever recieved when the former mayor of Galveston told me I did a great job raising my daughter.
Sorry you fall wasn't as good as mine.

  • Glad Tony is home and you are doing things you enjoy!!! It's nice to hear.

Well, I found out that the newspaper I work for is going to shut down at the end of the year, so unless I find something before, which is very unlikely, I'll start the new year unemployed. I'm getting a three-month severance, which will help, but I'm going to go without health insurance because it's just too damn expensive. Otherwise, two of my foster cats were adopted in the past month, and one of my foster kittens is very, very sick. It's like he has the worst flu imaginable and he is so miserable. So I've been giving him medicine, force-feeding him and doing the whole steam thing to help him breath, and am just waiting for him to improve. He fights me like crazy when I'm trying to give him medicine and food, so that's a good thing. That's my life in a nutshell.

    Replies: (list all replies)

  • Edward, I just heard that cats can get H1N1. I hope that's not what's wrong with your little guy! Good luck on the job search, maybe you'll get lucky and find something before that severance package runs out. You never know. ~i&b
  • Thanks, i&b. I'm hoping I can find a job right after the start of the new year, and then can use my severance to pay down some of my debt and build up savings, but of course that's easier said than done. Things are really bad out there. (Edward)
  • Edward, I love you for what you do and your kitties must love you too! /// Bd
  • Edward I am sorry about you job shutting down and about the sick kitty. Do you have any ideas for job searching? With fostering you do would you need to be near home? Good luck Edward.
  • Edward, so sorry to hear about your kitty kat. Have you taken him to the vet? Do you think he has H1N1? As far as looking for a job, how about starting with temp agencies? Lots of companies hire temp to permanent. Keep us posted on everything, okay?

Wow, Donna, I was really blown away to see what all you went through!  I'm so sorry that happened to you.  I'm really glad to see that you're doing so much better.

I certainly had an exciting week in September.  My sister and I flew to Paris and spent the week  seeing the sights.  What a spectacular place!  I have started a blog about it and will be writing about it and posting my pictures for quite some time, I imagine.  Here's the link:

    Parisfrancelady.wordpress.com

I was in too much pain and discomfort in my arms and shoulders for weeks after I got back and will be posting soon about the reason.  My sister kept a journal every day we were there and I just read it last night and discovered part of the reason why! I'll be writing about it this weekend.

Glad to see you back and feeling better!

  • JanB, now you got me curious as to what happened to you, you didn't fall and tumble down steps, did you? I'll wait for you to post more. Thanks for your concern about me. I'm okay now I think...glad to hear from you.
  • Hey Jan...I'll be heading to Europe in January for 4 months, and located specifically in Germany. One of the places I want to go to is Paris. Can you recommend some places I should see? I'll also check out that website you provided. Thanks!
  • Hey, Camochick! By all means, DO NOT MISS going up into the Eiffel Tower. She is spectacular!! And, there is a to-die-for gift shop on the first level up, if you like souvenirs. And, without a doubt, go visit the Mona Lisa in the Denon wing of the Louvre. Enter through the glass pryamid, go down one level and look around for the Denon wing back up one level again. She's easy to find, and so worth it! When you've gazed on her long enough, turn around, go to the end of this room and out the door and the ''Winged Victory'' will be out in the distance. Another great gift shop just to your left. Beware of Italian cabdrivers who claim to hate the French and who sing Italian love songs to you, then scam you out of 40 extra euros. Pay only what the meter says!

Donna, glad you're feeling well enough to post.  I see your sense of humor is still intact.

I turned 56 in October and am not, repeat NOT, pregnant!  LOL.  We've all been busy this fall with school, scouts, work, chorus, church, and the other usual jazz.  With the exception of Mr. Tuff, who lives the life of Riley while the humans slave away.  Earlier this fall I had quite the time with dental problems--root canal, oral surgery--but am thankfully done with that.  My dad was recently in the hospital with pneumonia so I was keeping watch on him long-distance, and he's doing much better now.  Mr. P just returned from 2 weeks in CA on business and we're glad to have him home.  I've been busy with rehearsals for a choral concert next week, plus a piano assignment in church this weekend.  Will gear up for Thanksgiving soon.

Take good care of yourself.   :    )

  • Peridot, I'm sooo sorry to hear your dad was in the hospital with pneumonia but glad to hear he's doing much better now. How are your teeth doing now? Root canal is harder than having a baby (I think anyways). Are you okay now? Glad Mr. P is home now, was he near where the wildfires were? Thanks for the update. Glad your doing well.
  • Donna, not too many fires where Mr. P was. I'm due for a dental checkup next month and need to get a crown. After that I'm hopefully done with dentists for awhile. - Peridot

Donna, I'm glad you're feeling well enough to laugh again.  It's good to have you back on the board.

Mr. Ingy got sick with the H1N1 which then led to a secondary lung infection.  He was sick for about a month but fortunately could work from home so that he could rest when he needed and still get some hours in.  He was past the infectious stage by the time my birthday hit, so we were still able to go out for dinner.  By then, he was feeling a bit of cabin fever so it was good for him to get out. Other than that, just the usual.

  • Ingy, first HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY, sorry I missed it. Second, I am so sorry to hear Mr. Ingy go the HINI. Was there a reason they didn't hospitalize him? Was he on Tamiflu? How long did it take for him to get better? I am glad to hear he recovered. One last question please....how did you NOT get it? Did you wear a mask around him? I'm happy to hear he's getting better (((hugggss)))).
  • Donna, she's like Typhoid Mary, she never gets anything while others around her are dropping like flies! LOL! ~ Duffy
  • Duffy, LOLLLLLLLLLL too funny!!!
  • Duffy is right! I have a super-charged immune system, fortunately. I did nothing to keep from catching Mr. Ingy's H1N1. He kept worrying he'd give it to me and I kept telling him I wouldn't get it. He was sick for a month but not sick enough to be hospitalized. His doctor said the vast majority of H1N1 cases don't require any special care, you just treat with OTC meds and let it run its course. ~i&b
  • Well ingy I'm glad to hear you stayed healthy through it all.

Well, I'm too old to get pregant..lol! I am getting ready for another arts and crafts showcase at the clubhouse in my development. I've set out my best show pieces of artwork, in two "Omaha Steakhouse" boxes. I put in a large bag a few of my Irish cloth drawstring bags along with an idea I saw in a dream..aproms made of Irish Print cloth with pouches in the front..deep pockets. I've sewn cloth looping  arround the neck part nothing to tie in the back..it just hangs free.

In a few days my husband turns the BIG 60! We have early dinner plans and coming home early for a party for him..most of the neighbors are coming. I hope my rowdy neighbors don't break anything..lol!
