Topic: Digital camera owners, do you print the pictures you take?

Additional Comments: I print probably 95 percent of the pictures I take and put them in photo albums. But I am surprised by the number of people I know that don't. Some of them don't even bother burning them onto a CD. I have already lost pictures when my hard drive crashed, but I had them on CD's and printed, so it wasn't too big of a deal. I just think that if you want to show them to people, it is easier to get out a photo album than say come to my computer so I can show you some pictures. It seems like I am always the one that has pictures to provide. Out of 10 moms in a Girl Scout troop, less than half of us take pictures at events. And I am the only one who prints them. So there are times when even the ones that take pictures ask me if they can have a prints of the pictures I took. I don't mind doing it, but it does make me wonder why they take pictures in the first place.

I've never thought of backing up my photos on a CD until I read some of the posts below. Most of our pix are categorized in the My Pix folder. We only print out our own pix  if we need extra copies for relatives, etc.  Otherwise, we just take the memory card to the photo lab for photo prints.

I do print mine! Not each and every one like in the old days with film, but most of them. I give copies to older relatives who are not computer-literate, and still like having the prints myself (even if it takes a while to get them into albums!) I do organize them on the computer first, and use an online program to order the prints and share with others...I like having choices!

probably because we take more pics than ever before, and if we don't like it we can erase and take another.

many people are lazy. like you, i actually did print digital photos and make sure to back them up.  the rest of the pack can learn the hard way;)

We store all our photos online in folders labeled by month and year.  Sometimes hubby makes CDs of the nicer ones to show or give to family and friends.  Every few months I edit and order a selection of choice pictures to put in our photo album.  The albums do take up space so I try to be selective.  Viewing photos online is nice but for me there's nothing like the tactile experience of opening up an album and thumbing through all the pictures.

No. I save them on my computer. The only ones I print are a few of my niece, when I want to frame something and display it. But otherwise, they all stay in slightly organized folders on my computer.

No, we don't print them.  We copy them to our computer network and burn a CD which we put in our safe deposit box for back-up in case of a fire or whatever.  We have a photo printer and can print any shots we want to frame or give away, but we don't do albums because they take up too much space after awhile.

We've never had a problem showing our pictures.  IMO, it's no more hassle to pull them up on a laptop than it is to look through an album.  Plus, we can set it on slideshow.  We can even hook the laptop up to the TV and see the pictures in a larger size.  We usually take my notebook computer when we travel and have used it to show photos to friends and relatives we stayed with.

When we were on our honeymoon, we set up a website our relatives and friends could go to while we were gone and see the pictures we took each day and read a narrative of what we were doing.  It just took a few minutes each night to download the photos from our digital camera to the notebook computer.  That was a big hit!

  • BW, I'm puzzled why you assume that people who store their pictures on their computers never look at them. ~i&b
  • I never said that they didn't look at them. I am just surpised that they don't at least put them on a CD in case their hard drive would ever crash. As for myself I don't own a laptop. And my computer is not on our main floor.
  • Oh, I get you now. Yeah, they should definitely have a backup on CD just in case. ~i&b
  • Even if your computer never crashes, there are other reasons to put your pictures on CD's or DVD's, like mother nautures doings or robberies. We know these people who went on a cruise. After their trip, while they were at work their house was robbed. Every piece of portable electronics they owned was taken, except for their 10 year olds digital camera. Thank goodness she took some pictures of a trip, that they think will be a once in a lifetime thing for them. The mom thinks that the only reason they did not take her daughter's camera was because her room was such as mess. It was buried under a bunch of clothes. She said that was one time when she was glad her daughter didn't have her room clean!
  • That's too bad. All those images and memories gone. Mr. Ingy is the one who manages our photos and he was smart to start keeping the CDs in our safety deposit box. It's not that big a deal to drop by the bank 2-3 times a year and stick one in the box. ~i&b
