Do y'all have "On DEMAND" television where you are?  For those of you who don't know what it is, it's a service that our cable company offers and a lot of the stuff is actually free.  There is a sub-category under TV Entertainment called "TubeTime" where they have episodes of some old TV shows.  They run different ones at different times.  Recently they had the old episodes of "Soap".  This is a very funny show that aired sometime in the 70s I believe.  I really enjoyed watching those old shows with Bert & Mary, Jessica, Benson....LOL.   There were so many old shows that I just loved and they definitely don't make 'em like they used to.  A couple others that come to mind as favorites over the years are "All in the Family", "Mary Tyler Moore", and I loved "Newhart"...the one where he was an innkeeper in Vermont...not so much the one where he was a psychiatrist in NYC.  And I used to love the variety shows..."Sonny & Cher", "Flip Wilson", and "Carol Burnett Show" were my favorites.  What were some of your old favs?

Roald Dahl (Willie Wonka/Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, James and the Giant Peach, The Witches, etc.) hosted a really creepy horror anthology series called Way Out.  This is the synopsis of one episode, "Soft Focus":

Peter Pell is a photographer who has made an amazing discovery: a special chemical that not only retouches photos, but then magically changes the faces of the people in the photos. For example, Peter removes the scars on a portrait of a once-famous actress, making her beautiful again.

Peter knows that his wife Louise is having an affair with his assistant Bill Fontaine. So Peter starts working on Louise's photo, using the magic retouching fluid, adding wrinkles until she looks very old. Peter, the whole time, has been working on his own photo, making himself look younger. But one night Louise discovers what he's up to in his studio; she splashes the bottle of the magic retouching fluid on Peter's photo -- erasing half the face on the photo, and half of his face!

There are one or more episodes I saw on YouTube but the one I saw was a pretty bad kinescope.

The Patty Duke Show from the 60's, but I doubt if it will ever be on tv again. I wish it would come out on DVD.

I don't think I have that service. I have On Demand, and use it a lot, but not the old tv shows part. I move on Sat, so when I get my new cable set up on Monday, I'll have to see if that's an option.

I think my favorite "old" (really from the '70s) TV show is WKRP. I have a few of those episodes on tape and I never fail to LMAO every time I watch them, LOL.

I also liked MTM. I'd love to see some old episodes of ShaNaNa. Totally corny, but I used to watch that as a kid and it would bring back a lot of memories. The Monkees is another (ultra) corny show that I would not mind seeing again.

I know I have a ton more tv shows that I used to love to watch, but I can't think of any right now. There were many TV shows on in primetime during the '70s and '80 that I watched all of the time.

  • The Monkees are on Demand sometimes too. ITA, it IS totally corny now but as a kid I loved it. As a 10 year old, I was madly in love with Davey Jones! LOL...GJ
  • I was madly in love with Micky at 7. My sister was madly in love with Davy at 3, LOL!........DebS

Soap was funny. I didn't get it the first time it aired but loved it through the reruns.

The Mary Tyler Moore Show was one of the best with a spectacular cast. I also liked Rhoda and wish it would get on DVD already. Others: Maude, I Love Lucy, All In The Family, Charlie's Angels, Wonder Woman, both Bob Newhart shows, The Jeffersons, Three's Company, Golden Girls, and such British classics like Are You Being Served (of course), Absolutely Fabulous, French and Saunders, Keeping Up Appearances, and The Vicar Of Dibley.

  • I almost forgot The Carol Burnett Show. Another one that should have every episode on DVD. A real classic./Betty

I love watching reruns of Golden Girls. I find it funnier now than when I was a young girl.

  • I am only 35 but I have been into this show for years! My younger sister, husband and BIL love to make fun of my love for GG. This is especially baffling to them because I am considered the *hippest* family member -cook
  • Golden Girls was a great show...lots of adult humor that you probably didn't pick up on as a kid that's why you like it even more now. BTW I've heard they are going to do a reunion show. Can't wait! GJ

When I was a kid I thought Fantasy Island, Charlie's Angels and Dukes of Hazard ruled!!! One of our channels actually has 2 of these shows on now. When I stop on Charlie's Angels I think "Wow. What a great wardrobe!" When I spend any time on Dukes of Hazzard it is to marvel on what an absolutely ludicrous show that was. Did adults like it when it was on prime time? Or was it just kids that had the stamina for it? The grammar will truly make you cringe! And was it popular outside the south? My husband doesn't recall ever seeing it in Europe. He says just looking at the level of tightness in the guy's jeans is painful. Why would anyone do that? He wants to know. Guys?

  • Ah, yes! The Dukes of Hazard! I used to love that show. You can still catch it on CMT sometimes. I never watch that station (I have an aversion to country music,LOL), but sometimes I'll be flipping through the station and I'll see it on.. It's another totally corny show, but it's hilarious to watch!...........DebS
  • My childhood love of this show knew no bounds! Which is sooooo surprising now! If you really want to amuse yourself watch it for a little while with the close captioning function on! -cook

We have Comcast and we don't care for it a great deal. We never can figure out the on demand thing and how to find things.

I loved Soap! It was a great show.
