Additional Comments:

In a recent column by Dowd, she said:

''It’s W., Cheney and Edward Liddy, the C.E.O. of A.I.G. — who can’t seem to stop the conga line of bailout beneficiaries from going on luxury retreats, even though taxpayers have to keep ponying up — who may have clinched the case that overprivileged white men are biologically or cognitively unsuited to hold higher office.''

How wise!  LOL!

Mo is right.  AIG got their bailout and then promptly made their reservations at another set of luxury resorts before stepping up to the public trough for a second helping of bailout funds so the party could go on.  It's absolutely shameful.

I don't care so much for Maureen Dowd. The woman is more interested in clever soundbites than facts and I hold her responsible for a lot of the trouble that Al Gore faced in his campaign. Thanks to her and her column painting Al Gore as a pathological liar, millions of Americans went around repeating the rumor that Al Gore lied about "inventing the internet" and being in Love Story. Then she took aim at Howard Dean, calling his wife, an "uncrusted hippie". Obama had better watch his back around her, because as soon as she's bored with shooting down Sarah Palin, she'll start spreading nasty little tidbits about him

I don't think I've ever heard Maureen Dowd be described as wise. Isn't that an oxymoron? It's too bad you put so much stock in what she has to say. It's good that not many other people do.

  • And you know this how?? - You have taken a survey of every person who reads her? Maureen Dowd is very smart and savvy. I don't always agree with her but that does not mean she is not smart. eom Sierra
  • I know this because I read? Outside of the NY Times, not many other journalists take her seriously. From the 2000 campaign insulting Al Gore to the nicknames she gives most politicians to the dumbing-down of her material, she rarely writes anything of substance.
  • I don't know how ''wise'' she is, but she can be pretty clever --- clever enough to win a Pulitzer Prize for her witty writing, anyway. And no, I wouldn't think journalists would take any op-ed columnist very seriously. I don't think journalists are known for taking people like her (and Ann Coulter) very seriously, although both of them can make clever observations from time to time ... Ricky

How racist and bigoted.  Oh wait, but it's politically correct because you are bashing white men.

  • I'm sorry, Mz Chris. I am SO mad about the bailout and the luxury retreats that the taxpayers are financing that I'm down on whoever is letting it happen. I thought the way Dowd stated it was funny. ~Duffy
  • (Sam) Maureen Dowd is white, is she not?
  • Yes, MD is white and she's bashing white men -- but NOT because they are white. I guess trying to argue racism is the only ''defense'' available. ~i&b
  • This sounds like typical Dowd hyperbole. If she is a racist, then I'd guess she's an equal opportunity racist. - JT
