Topic: Does anyone else watch Jon and Kate Plus 8?

Additional Comments:

This is the last show I'd think I'd watch but I do watch at least once a week.  Those kids are so cute!  If you don't know who the are, here's the "Readers Digest" version.

On the other hand, it sort of reminds me of the Dionne Quintuplets.  They were quite sad.  I think you're more likely to know who they were if you're Canadian.

The Jon and Kate.... parents and children have made special guest appearances:

Anyone but me watching?

I'm a watcher too Mitch. I agree - those kids are uber-adorable. And I get a kick out of Mady with all her drama, lol.

Kate irritates me sometimes with the way she talks down to her husband but all in all, I enjoy the show.

The kids are cute, but the older two are kind of bratty at times. I suppose they feel the need to interject and whine, just because the other 6 are getting the attention, but I think they have their moms dispostion. Kate is annoying as heck and as time goes on, she is getting on my nerves more and more. She reminds me of someone I know, who is a super control freak and her poor husband just has to always let her have her own way.

Jon is mellow...but I even see how he is rolling his eyes more and loudly sighing. I can barely sit through an episode, just because Kate can be so condescending to him. And all that cleaning makes me weary. Did you see the episode where they all were in the hotel room and she wouldn't let any of them on the floor in their bare feet?

And the one episode where the kids were rolling down the hill and she was freaking out because of grass stains? (or the potential for them) Gee, let them be kids. Jon even spoke out about that....and she just got mad and started piling the kids back into the car.

  • I guess in Kate-world, nurses trump techie-guys and can be condescending to them...eom...Mitch

I've been wanting to ask about this show!!!  I stumbled on it a while back.  I usually watch Corner Gas before I go to bed and it wasn't on so I was surfing and found this.  Ended up watching like 3 in a row, lol.  I had to look it up the next day.  It's interesting.  I grew up in a family of 9 children - but spread out.  I think Kate has to find her happy medium.  She obviously needs to keep some control but she needs to reign her's in.  I like Jon.  I read a book about the Dionne quintuplets several years ago and then did some research.  It's one of those things, you wonder what could have been.  It was sad what their lives were turned in to.

  • I'm like you... I stumbled across it one day while channel surfing. There's some days when it's on, episode after episode, continuously. Then my sister asked me if I'd ever seen it, so I started purposely watching it sometimes. I do find Kate's controlling, bossy nature rather off-putting 'tho. I almost always end up feeling sorry for Jon. eom/faysie
  • My mother was one of 16 siblings. I guess we don't have families as big as we once did...eom...Mitch

I got into watching it because those kids are so darn cute and I was fascinated at first at how organized Kate was.  But I am tuning in less frequently because I find her embarassing now, freaking out over dumb stuff, like the kids having to wear a certain shoe because she wants them to, or one of them getting messy (that is what little kids do).  But the way she treats her husband on air is humiliating and I find myself hoping he will one day find a girlfriend on the side!! (just kidding, - sort of).  As another poster said, she corrects his English, makes fun of him in front of the kids, and constantly gets in digs about men in general.  I feel really sorry for those kids when they get older and start wanting to make their own choices; and talk about a PITA mother-in-law!!!  I also wonder how their future spouses or SO's would be treated.

ITA about the Key West trip and the stupid choice of not using sunscreen and ruining the whole trip (some passive-aggressive behavior going on?).  Also most people with a lot of kids and multiples do not have the income or help they have.  They even have someone who folds their laundry for them!

I do watch Jon & Kate Plus 8 from time to time.  Part of me admires Kate for holding it together and part of me thinks that she is a real bag.  I wonder what the camera crew thinks as they follow her around all day.  She seems to think that as long as she acknowleges from time to time that she is bossy, that it is OK to be bossy.   She obviously knows how she comes across on the show, as she has said more than once that the kids watch the shows over and over again.  They must be making OK money from TLC.   Jon is now working only part time and with Kate not working at all, they obviously have to be getting the money from some where.  I suspect that TLC pays for all the trips and outings that the family goes on.     I also watch Little People Big World on occassion.  Amy Roloff is also kind of a bag, and a horrible housekeeper.  My daughter and I always laugh and say that Kate Gosselin  should visit Amy Roloff and whip her house into shape.  I know that most people have times when their house is a bit messy, but my gosh, their house is extreme.  If I was being filmed 24/7 you want to believe that I would have my house organized.  I loved the episode when Amy suggested that they should open a B & B after the kidlets flew the coop.  Matt made a comment that would not be a good idea because who would clean the house.  Amy got all snotty about it and said maybe they should just separate.

Yes Mitch I have watched many episodes. The kids are very, very cute but the older girls are getting a snotty just like Kate.    I don't like how Kate behaves toward Jon.  She's controlling and not in a good way for the kids to see.  She belittles Jon in every show. I've seen her correct his english.  She orders him around till he has to get loud and tell her to let him do what he's doing his way. She's yelled at him an a store.  Parents should never talk negatively about each other in front of or to the children. She does this more and more as they get older. Sometimes the older girls even describe things Mom says about Daddy's behavior.  When they're sitting on the couch talking to the camera Kate does most of the talking and hits/slaps him so frequently they edited the hits all together once.

Having a bunch of kids is no excuse for what I'm talking about. Others have stress. My  SIL had 6 kids.  Her husband was accidentally killed when the last was one month old.   My other sister-in-law had 9, the 8th Down's syndrome.     Kate's type would be the same if she just had 2 kids.

Keep watching see what you think later.

  • Forgot to say I think everyone of my generation knew of the Dionne Quints. It was a one in 57 million chance of giving birth to identical quintuplets and even less chance of them surviving. No fertility drugs either //s'mom
  • Will do....I confess I do sometimes ask myself if their marriage has a chance. He seems pretty mellow. Maybe is is a good match after all...eom...Mitch

I've watched it from time to time as well.  Those two sure have their hands full!  All of them are really cute kids. Like somebody said below, I've sometimes felt sorry for Jon, because Kate can be pretty sharp with him. And other times, I've seen really nice tender moments between them.... so I guess they're like most couples. LOL.  Only with a whole tribe of kids!!!  I liked the episode where she'd planned a surprise trip for just the two of them (I think it was for his birthday?) I think they were going to Key West? He was really touched.

  • Did you watch the entire show when they went to Key West for Jon's birthday? As usual, Kate made it all about her when she refused to use sun screen and ended up ill from being sunburned, turning the 'romantic' boat ride into Jon taking care of poor sick Kate. eom/Just saying
  • JustSaying... yes, I did watch that whole show. And I was irritated at Kate for that. Jon is pretty long-suffering IMO. My sister watches it from time to time and has said the same thing. LOL. Can you imagine what a heel he'd look like if he ever wanted to leave the marriage? With all those kids?!!! Perhaps he figures he'd better just suck it up and get along.... eom/faysie
  • Faysie you and I have similar thoughts so often. That always occurs to me how Jon is stuck for life, no matter how bad it gets for him The irony is, he was happy with only twins but she wanted to try for more. //S'mom
  • S'mom, I didn't realize that she was the one who wanted to go beyond the first 2 twins. I guess I must have heard that on the show, but it didn't sink in. I don't watch it all the time, just on & off. Actually, I find her kinda irritating! LOL. eom/faysie
  • Yes, the birthday episode was sweet...eom...Mitch

I watch it and just doing that exhausts me! Those kids are pretty adorable - and I can tell who's who, except for Leah and Alexis! Kate (the mom) is so - controlling - I feel sorry for her husband. I would imagine you have to be organized with 8 kids, but still - she has seemed really horrible on a number of occasions on the show. Daughter Mady is just like her ...

I've watched it a couple of times and seen them on talk shows. I think Dr. Phil offered to get them a Nanny. The kids are adorable and they seem like a really nice couple. The fact that she is a germ a phobe kills me. Washing the floor constantly, etc. I'm glad I don't have all that cleaning to do, lol.
