Goodness, that is too cold. How long does that kind of temperature last where you are? rushlan

We had our first snow last weekend. Being someone who hates the snow, I can't say I enjoyed it :-)
I also escaped the ice storm that happened here in MA last week. Fortunately, I live way south of where that all happened. I saw on the news last night that some schools in that area were still cancelled today and some tomorrow (hey, that's not fair, when I was in school - they hardly EVER cancelled school, especially four days after the storm happened!!! Argh, kids today are so spoiled!)

I am not a big fan of snow either. I think it looks pretty when it is first on the ground but after that, I want it to go away. Glad you missed the ice storm. rushlan
Deb, Leo and I watched some of the school closings early this a.m. on the news. Hey, those kids aren't spoiled, the schools don't have power! Some of those more remote areas in northern MA and NH probably don't have the resources we do. When I was in high school I remember one winter when there was an awful blizzard followed by an equally awful ice storm. School was closed for a week. Very unusual. - Peridot
One of the schools is Portsmouth, NH. Hardly a remote area..........DebS
Rushlan, you're like me - almost as soon as it's done falling, I want the snow GONE (especially when it gets all brown and slushy - yuk!)..........DebS
Our schools almost never close here either. I remember 10 years ago, we got 56 inches in 3 days. They did cancel school for that one. Nobody could dig out of their driveways..........................Liz
I remember the ol' ''Blizzard of '78
I remember the ol' ''Blizzard of '78'' as it's known around here. I was 9. School was cancelled for like a week or two. But it was really, really bad and we ended up paying for it when school got back in session. Our school day was lengthend by 15 minutes for like seemed like forever. I think (at least around here) they're way too quick to cancel school these days. We'll get a mere three inches and every place closes. Crazy...........DebS

Here on the Delmarva Peninsula, the tempature was 54 degrees this morning on the way to work. It's supposed to be in the sixties today and rainy off and on the rest of the week. Yay! I hate driving on the snow and ice. Could someone arrange for it to stay west of the Chesapeake Bay for the rest of the winter? Thank you very much in advance..... LOL.

How nice, 54 degrees! I could put in the request for the snow to stay west, but I doubt anyone would listen! rushlan

We have had snow on the ground for a least a month, and lots of it. Today(see my post) we had rain over night and lost some of it, temps are 5*C to highs of around 8*C and then turning cold later this afternoon,(-16*C) blowing snow and winds are gusting to around 70Kms/hr. It has been a snowy fall...When is the first day of winter???...Redman91 ...Oh yeah...I live in Northern Ontario...Near Sudbury...

Well I believe the first day of winter would be December 21 - almost a week away! Hope it does not get any worse for you up there. rushlan

We got a 35 inch dump in mid October, but it's long gone. We have had a skiff here & there since then but it's been warm until yesterday. We got another skiff last night but the temps are in the low single digits. It was 2 degrees Farenheit while I was out shopping this morning. I was able to clear my walk this morning with a broom instead of a shovel. The snow was so dry. Now if we could just get a couple of feet of that super dry stuff, I'd go skiing. Gotta love that powder that the Rockies are so famous for. I've got my woodstove blazing, so we are nice & warm inside the house.

I would much rather have powder than the wet, mucky stuff we get here. Keep that woodstove going, that sounds so very nice. rushlan

I do not think I have ever seen a true blizzard, and I do not think I want to. Stay warm! rushlan

The first snow of the season is always so pretty, isn't it? We've had just a couple of light dustings this month.
Friday parts of New England got clobbered by an ice storm. Thankfully we escaped with just rain, although it was heavy enough to cause flooding in spots. Areas north and west of us are still dealing with loss of power and trees down.

I have only experienced one ice storm in my life and that was enough. rushlan

Rushlan, we are at Lake Tapps, just south of Auburn. We have snow too and it is beautiful. I wonder what the roads are like outside? I work for a school district, and I think it is a given we will be 2 hours late. That is usually what happens. For others -- we live about 40 minutes south of Seattle.

The roads here were fine once I got out of the neighborhood. It is only 30 degrees but does not seem to be any ice on the roads (knocking on wood here). rushlan

I live just about 20 miles NE of Seattle. The roads are fine here but the areas further south and north and east got a lot more snow than my area did. rushlan
