I heard that when Y&R picked up the actor, VI, from All My Children they came up with the name David Chow because on AMC his name was David and Chow was a play on Ciao. (sp?)
Anyway I don't think it's stereotyping to make him Italian if he is really Mafia, because only Italians can be made men in the Mafia. (Unlike on GH where they have every ethnicity in the world be in 'the mob')
But you're right, he's a sad wise guy and I think he would have been whacked by Tony Soprano by now!
