Subject: Hello Patem111 - ICAM about Pleshenko any Lysecek - especially the former. I was at Skate Canada in 1998 when Pleshenko won his first international competition. Elvis Stoyko was the favoured to win and did not have his best skate but ended up with silver. Elvis was so gracious and when they were doing the victory lap after the medal presentation Elvis stood back and motioned for Evgeny to take a lap on his own. I experienced his ego growing right before my eyes and it has become so giant I am quite sure that it will be spilling over the ice at the Pacific Colliseum tomorrow night. I have tickets for the event and can only hope that there is an upset and I would love nothing more than to see the Japanese skaters have the skate of their life and see Pleshenko any Lysecek land on their butts ( more than once). Subject: If ego stopped skaters from winning we wouldn't have seen MANY of the men considered the standard bearers of the sport in the top 10! Ever heard of a guy named Boitano?! I couldn't disagree more about Lysacek. He has worked hard for what he has achieved & his win would be well deserved. eom

Subject: No need to yell. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. I have been following figure skating for over 40 years and of course heard of Boitano. Many of the top skaters do not have a huge ego. Scott Hamilton, Kurt Browning, Brian Orser, Elvis S, Victor Petrenko are just a handful that are among the top skaters in recent years and they appear to be somewhat humble. Dot

Subject: Dot: I wasn't yelling. But to think that the skaters you mentioned don't have egos or aren't highly competitive is ridiculous! There are always going to be some performers, in any area of entertainment, who have bigger egos than others, but that just goes w/the territory. Just because someone is gracious doesn't mean they don't have a big ego. eom
