Topic: Was John McCain in the zone of silence or not?

Additional Comments: Was watching CNN while eating lunch and apparently two reporters saw John McCain walk into the zone of silence (or whatever Rick Warren called it) after it was announced he was in it.  I was not able to watch much beyond this but apparently it will be discussed more on CNN today, Rick Warren will be on Larry King tonight.

It will be interesting to see what the story is or if there really isn't one.  Frankly I was surprised by McCain's performance since it was in stark contrast to the way I have seen him stumbling for words and misspeaking on the campaign trail and often having a deer in the headlights look, especially on the health insurance company covered Viagra issue.  Even so I could not help humming Barbara Ann (the Beach Boys tune he sang bomb, bomb Iran, during his more bellicose moments when he was threatening everybody in the world was not doing what he wanted, but the crowd sure liked his performance.  Now what will be the fall out (if any) if we find out John McCain heard the questions while Obama was answering them?  I sinerely hope it is not true because that was the best issues format I have ever seen in a campaign.  Well that is if they did not let one of the partciipants wander the area when he was supposed to be sequestered somewhere.

I wanted to say I agree with Elliott.  Though I was never a Get Smart fan!   Man From Uncle (oh Ilya, my love, lol) was more my cup of tea, and Mission Impossible.  LOVED that show.   I did think McCain did better than Obama.  I thought the cone of silence story was a lame attempt by the media to excuse the fact that Obama did not do as well as McCain.  And I think someone who spent five years in a prison of war camp and who was horribly tortured is doing quite well for his age.   Obama to me is a disappointment.  And both men have a propensity to change their positions.

Draft Hillary at the convention!

Other than that  (my typing load is unbearable of late),  I wanted to let you know Morris is doing fine.   He spent another four weeks off on his own, and came back looking better than ever.   Someone has to be looking out for him when he is not sleeping on his big pillow on my porch!   He just had left-over pot roast last night.

Well, I just wanted to pop in and answer your question from above.  I find fictional television much more enjoyable these days than this election crapola.  I even erased MSNBC from my favorites list.

  • Hope you can read this with all the typos... just too tired to edit it...., I just have to say that you and Elliott are two of my favorite people to communicate with here on MD ... I am pretty sick of all the political commentary and am not nearly the MSNBC political junkie I used to be... mostly because of all the shows seem to only talk about the hot story of the day... even David Gregory who I seemed to avoid that trap. I have starting taping more CNN specials like the one they are hving on both candidates tonight. I also I tape the BBC new now for a broader view still tape Keith to see if I am interested or not, and Charlie Rose too to see who he has on. I am watching Burn Notice and Saving Grace, Army Wifes and Psych and Monk and that is about it for entertainment. Then it is on to the conventions and the debates and thankfully this political yammering will be back to a dull roar. Issues.. so many that need to be discussed and so much air time wasted. It is really sad when you think about it. I am glad to hear Morris is the prowl again and doing well. It seem to me when you love a feral cat your heart is always in your mouth. One of my girls has a very enlarged lymph node (sadly she has been exposed to reline leukemia), and I have had to squirt 2.5 cm of an antibiotic down her throat ... 11 more days to go. After the first day she totally reverted to her feral slinking away to hide looked at me like I was the ax murderer she had feared all her life. It just broke my heart to see her go back to that totally terrified state... hiding in the basement. She has come back around after the shock of me doing something so horrible to her, but it took a few days for her to realize I only do it once a day and after that it was safe to be herself. Cats are just a wonderful 4-footed lesson in giving up control and expectations. Good to hear from you.... Thalia
  • Thanks, Thalia... and right back at ya. I've always enjoyed talking to you. It started at the GH board. You were going to stop watching completely. That was a few years ago. Time flies. Hi Elaine! I'd vote for Hillary FOR SURE. You both love cats? Me, too. I have 3 rescued cats and my old girl kitty. She has to have medicine every day. Two kinds. It's a paste or gel I put in her ears for a thyroid problem and a heart murmur. I love all my cats. Don't get me started. hehehe eom Elliott

It's Cone of Silence. You must not have been a Get Smart fan. :)

I think it's a non-story. The media is really desperate at times for something to report. Even if he'd heard some of the questions, how would that be all that helpful in making up quick answers? There was only an hour or less of questions for Obama. From what I've read, both Obama and McCain knew the general topics that would be discussed.

I watched the whole thing. I thought Obama did fine (talk about stammering and crap though... um, ah, eh). McCain did better in my opinion. Definitely more authority in his answers. But I wanted to scream every time he said "my friends." Wow, he said that like two dozen times.

I'm a democrat BTW. But not an Obama fan.

  • I was a big Get Smart fan and knew I was off but having a senior moment but posted anyway. I wanted to scream every time he said my friends too. I liked that Obama made it a conversation, a thoughtful conversation at that. I started thinking of McCain as Fast Draw McGraw, and then I thought of Bush and what his shoot from the hip style has brought this country too. Is he going to draft the whole country to fight all the wars he wants to engage in? It is so easy to sound tough and assertive, sadly, but after 8 years of Bush and seeing what sounding tough and assertive has done... I kinda cringed during most of McCain's session....sorta like oh no not again, but that is me. I am glad I remembered to watch and also glad the press dropped the cone of silence story. Thalia
