Topic: Paris HIlton's political ad (or not)....

Additional Comments: I hope this qualifies as a topic.  I did see it on a cable news show, so it was on TV.  Anyway at first I thought it was one of those doctored U-tube things, but it not take too long to realize it was her responding to the use of her image and reputation in a political ad.  Then I could not stop laughing at how clever it was (it was written for her by the way).

What I would hope is that it would shame both political campaigns to stop spending their money on political ads that only purpose is to deceive, distort and mislead and spread disinformation.  If not that maybe at least make them aware that a really ridiculous ad that uses images to distort another person's character could come back to bite you in the you know where.

Did anybody else see the Hilton "ad" and if so what was your reaction to it?

I finally saw the McCain ad with Paris in it and realized I've seen it many times!!!  There's just a quick flash of Paris in, I think, a black and white dress at the very beginning!  It is soooooooooo quick you hardly register who it is!  THIS is what her mother was so upset about??!!  How truly silly!

I did like Paris's ad!  Very cute and so tongue in cheek!!!

  • Actually, it isn't silly at all--considering that there wasn't permission given for the use of her likeness in the ad. That is a HUGE deal! It implies that she supports him, without getting permission, as well. Maybe she IS a McCain supporter, but even a volunteer/intern would have known that using someone's image without permission is illegal, as well as bad form. eom
  • Thanks, Rosebud. I truly needed to be chastised in a public forum. eom fuzzwuzz
  • fuzzwuzz: No one is 'chastising' you. A lot of people don't realize that there needs to be legal permission to use someone's likeness the way it was in the political ad. I saw the red flag when it was mentioned in one report that permission wasn't given by either BS or PH. eom
  • You're right, Rosebud. I just thought with all the questionable videos Paris has been in, it was a bit of an over reaction on her Mother's part. That's all. eom fuzzwuzz

I was of course skeptical when it started, but when she went on about her energy plan, and it started to make sense ... I CRACKED UP!  Loved it, loved it.

I loved it because it made fun of these 2 candidates trashing each other. These are the people we want as our President? Not me. I am not just talking about these 2,it happens every election time.

I'm no Paris fan but I thought it was cute.  I really liked the montage at the beginning, them showing the Golden Girls,  and I almost fell off the couch when I saw the Crypt Keeper.  I usually cannot stand Paris,  but I thought her plans for the nations oil problems were great.  Go Paris,  you have my vote,  and it's alright with me if you paint the White House pink.

It came nowhere near the vicinity of my funny bone.  I actually find her more obnoxious than ever, and that's no small feat.

It was the most intelligent presentation of Ms Hilton I've seen so far!  As one of the late night talk show hosts said after airing it--'Who knew?!'

  • PS: As far as Paris' ad being written by someone other than her, that is almost always the case! Obama & McCain don't write their own ad copy either. Most candidates & politicians in general don't. Most actresses don't either. eom
  • It is a good thing they don't write their own speeches etc. I would hate to see what George Bush would write. I actually voted for him and like him but he has made some horrible mistakes in my opinion. eom (Lori)
  • One of those involved w/Paris' response video was Brooke Shields' husband--Chris Henchy (sp). eom

I saw it. I loved it. The response came within, like, 24 hours of the initial ad.  Sometimes this age of instant media is so fun!

I'll tell ya, that Paris is smart like a fox. She sure knows how to keep in the public eye!

  • Paris' response wasn't within 24 hours of McCain's initial ad. It came out last week, at least. I listened to debates about it on the news last week, particularly the Sunday morning news shows. eom
  • my mistake. I guess I first heard about the ad on tv 24 hours before. The ad wasn't shown in my area
  • Actually, it's not surprising that you didn't see it. One of the comments in the discussion I heard over the weekend about it (pre-Paris) was about how much mileage McCain was getting out of an ad that had actually only been shown very few times as a paid ad. It was mostly being replayed (and replayed!) and debated on the cable shows and talk shows and on the internet.
