Her career over? HARDLY. Interest is increasing by the month, which is saying alot. She has been at the top of Yahoo search results every year for nearly a decade. She has released a string of hit singles for a long time and made a movie that, despite the bad reviews, was a moderate box office hit. Moreover, she has been a performer for years prior to her late teen rise to fame and has alot of talent and charisma which has kept people interested. She is in some ways becoming like Elizabeth Taylor who remained famous years after stopping acting and performing.
I saw the clip from the Awards show today on YouTube finally. The quality was a bit grainy so I couldn't see things perfectly but to say it was a bomb or a farce is not true. I thought she fell on her ass or sumthing. She did look lethargic in her moves and stuff but it almost seemed intentional even if it wasn't.. sumthing to poke fun at herself. I think one of the big problems with this song is that it is an absolute parody of her previous work. That being said.. to have her actually dancing energetically would seem ludicrous. I think people are tired of bland pop tunes as well as angst rock too. They are looking for sumthing.. not sure of what.. but know they are sick of what once was. Many of the songs of only a few years ago seem dated today... while before songs didn't age as quickly.. but our consciousness is increasing velocity.
I dunno.. I don't pay attention to the charts anymore. I have changed alot too.. but for some reason I loved this song after one listen. It had strong beats that recalled previous Britney songs that pumped from the gay clubs in earlier years in their various remix incarnations. And though she seemed sluggish, she was smart enough to have strong dancers to support her. I think it is really unfair of people to say she is fat as well! She is far from fat. Like I said before.. if she was skinny, then people would say she was a slut like before. You can;t win. This was very tongue in cheek if not a tiny bit awkward. Probably just because she knows she must find a new place yet but can't get there yet.. so she settled into doing sumthing she was used to like a lazy Sagittarius. Alot of this is just media spinplay. They say she is good so people believe it.. now they say she is bad so people believe it and it becomes a fulfilling prophecy. Unless she turns into a female Michael Jackson, her star is far from out. In any case, she is set for life moneywise anyway.

Martimmy, you are so right on the money. I couldn't get the song out of my mind so i needed a second listen, so watched the video this time. My jaw dropped.. not sure in what way. It even has that grainy look and feel of Madonna's "Erotica". And her own spin on 'in your face' etc. was artful and.. not even sure what words to describe if they have been invented yet.
The student truly has surpassed the teacher!
Personally: I love her trainwreck life. If she's being coached by Madonna on how to work the media, the student has now surpassed the teacher, because Brits has surpassed any "Papa Don't Preach", "Pepsi vs. Like A Prayer" or "I Married Sean Penn" turmoil.
And, I think "Gimme More" is her best song ever. Not kidding. I have her "Baby, One More Time" "Oops....", "Toxic" remix CDs and I think this is better than those...albeit, very Kylie/Dannii Minogue ripoff, but whatever.

Anyways I did sum research on wikipedia about the single. It seems this is her most successful hit since "Baby, One more Time"!! And to think I thought it would barely crack the top 40. Guess I am totally out of the loop by now. With some good reviews to boot her new album will easily sell a few million alone.
This 'breakdown' timed 9 years from Brit's initial rise to fame, Madonna too had a bit of a backlash in 1992 - 9 years from HER start of fame - and she rebounded in a few years just fine. I am sure Britney will as well.
