Additional Comments: Do you ever feel ashamed for wanting more? I left Savannah not really wanting to leave but I put myself in practical mode and told myself this:

1. Go back for the condo. It's your home and an investment which will appreciate while you live there.
2. The Twin Cities has a few bigtime corporations to work at, and pad your portfolio.
3. It's not a social place, so DO NOT get angry if you're on your own a lot.

Well, numbers 1 and 2 are going well. The last one, it's making me angry. I pretty much planned on focusing on work and not my personal life for a few years until I have options, but I didn't think it would be so literal, LOL. I haven't been on a date in about a year! The last date was Thanksgiving in Savannah.

I've seen cute guys here and there. One guy in the laundry room, who ran to catch the elevator I was in. Cute and nice. But I could never date anybody from the building, if he's even gay. And, I now know that there are a couple gay guys on my floor at work. I talked to one last weekend at the gay bar. But, how awkward to see that person at work after you've dated! And never date friends of friends. If you break up, tres uncomfortable.

So, I've got about 6 months accomplished of my 3-year Master Plan. Phew, gonna be a long haul. Where should I go afterward?

Well, hon, you could sell your condo and move back to Savannah. I know that here the actual city condo market is doing fine, it's the 'burbs that are suffering with the downturn. YMMV! Do you have a friend that would like to rent your place without trashing it? How's the job market in Savannah?

Just remember: Where ever you go, there you are. Although, the South is a lot more friendly.

  • The job market in Savannah sucks harder than a nuclear powered vacuum cleaner. I don't know if I'd have enough confidence in my potential income down there. eom Martimmy
  • And I agree about the 'Where you go, there you are' statement. I really try to make the best of different places. For god's sake, I basically blend-in in places as diverse as Savannah, Minneapolis, New York and my parent's po-dunk little town. It's not like I'm rigid and anti-social, I just think there is just something oil-and-water with me and Twin Cities. I can't quite put my finger on it. eom Martimmy

Martimmy, I just want to say that I think you are one of the most articulate and FUNNY guys out there. I completely get your humor (although I'm much more sentimental than you) and think you are hysterical. And that is coming from someone with a vastly different lifestyle than you! You've missed your calling - you should write a column - like the equivalent to Carrie's "Sex and the City" column but for Minneapolis. Think of the research! :)

  • Thanks! I guess my perception of things can be a bit unique. My mom says I've always been very ''sensitive and absorbant'' to my surroundings. I think it's just easier to an obtuse nimrod who is oblivious to everything, LOL! eom Martimmy
