Topic: *Little Miss Sunshine* - has anybody seen it?

Additional Comments:

It was on t.v. last night and I laughed so hard that I almost didn't make it to the bathroom a couple of times.  That was the funniest, strangest movie I have ever seen.  It was just very dry, but so hilarious that I couldn't believe it.

Just wondered if any of you had ever seen it, and what did you think.

Dottie

I saw it the other night, too.  That was the first time I watched it.  There were parts that made me cringe, and then there are the parts that made me laugh out loud....very few movies or tv shows can do that to me.  I guess I am weird, I like quirky, dry humour....

I am glad they bleeped out the bad words, though....they were really not necessary to the story, imo

It was on the list the other day of Rave movies that you hate.

I just despise it - watching it one time was painful for me.

You might enjoy the other movies the little girl (abigail Breslin) was in.

I have seen three since she did LMS and in the three that I saw, she played the same chactor.

Nim's Island - No reservations and Definately, Maybe

We saw it (awhile back) and both liked it a lot.    Funny, I don't remember the F bomb being dropped so much.    I normally tire of that.

  • I realized the reason I didn't remember the F bomb was because I saw it on TV. They overdo that so much in movies and I have NO idea why. Gail

I've seen it a few times. Superb cast who deserved their Oscar nods and win for Mr. Arkin!

Saw it three times. Such a cute and funny movie. Loved the little girl's dance routine. Loved Alan Arkin. They all were good. Even the van.

  • I could watch it three times too - it was that good. Only person I didn't care for was the mother. Never saw her before and she looked so darned messy or something. Dottie

I haven't seen Little Miss Sunshine but every time I hear the movie name I think it ought to have been a Shirly Temple movie.
Reading Jenny's reply below about the language it's probably good I haven't seen the movie. I'll watch for it on tv.

  • It's good on t.v. without all the bad language. It is such a funny movie. Dottie

I loved it. I am crazy about Greg Kinnear. He and Steve Carrell (sp) made that movie - besides the little girl of course. Alan Arkin as the grandfather was great to see too. I did enjoy the movie. A small independant movie - sometimes those are the best. As I recall, it got some oscars??

  • I liked it so much that I'm going to watch it again. I didn't get to hear all the bad language and I guess that did make it better. I hate it that they have to put so much filth into movies nowadays. Just uncalled for. Glad to know that you liked it too.

Well, the rental version was so full of the f*word that a few of my tenants got up and left.  And I would have, but I was curious why so many people actually liked the movie.  As you said, it was wierd.  It was funny in places, but not enough to ever make me want to see it again.  As much as I admire Alan Arkin, as an actor, I think it's obvious that his Oscar win for this picture was a pity win.  He had his role down pat, but believe me, if all his expletives were removed, half his film time was, too.

I am still wondering about that poor little girl.  She was on Law & Order while very young and she was so believable and incredibly talented.  She was good in the film, too, don't get me wrong, but I think even someone as young as she is should have been shaking her head and thinking, WTH?  (which I'm sure she heard on the set a lot!)

I'm glad you at least liked it enough to praise it, must mean it has some redeeming traits.   I trust your judgment much more than the critics.

  • LOL jenny. Of course, Dottie watched it on TV, so she didn't hear all those lovely words! I did hear the words, and I admit they were uncalled for in this movie, but I still liked the people and the movie. I think Alan Arkin won because of who he was up against. As I remember, he was the best of the ones the Oscars had nominated. Now I'm gonna have to go look that up. Thanks a lot. hahahahaha (shirla)
  • I never saw that little girl before and she was so cute and so good in the movie. It was just the strangest movie I have ever seen, but so funny. Dottie
  • We watched HANCOCK last night with Will Smith - talk about STRANGE! Don't bother. LOL! (shirla)
  • Many movies are ruined with sensorship. It takes away from the content of the story. We all know what the word is....not ''fudge'''. I could never watch a movie that has been tampered with. It's an insult to the screen writer and the intelligent viewer. Fed Up
  • I have to disagree with you Fed Up. I think the screenwriters that have to use the F word over and over in a movie are showing that they are the unitelligent people. They should learn how to write intelligent lines without overdoing the bad language. The bad language detracts from a good movie. I, for one, prefer to watch the edited version. A few of the ''F'' word are ok but to use it continually in a movie for the shock affect is just plain poor writing. eom mags
  • I wish they wouldn't use it so much either. And I'm thinking I must have seen the TV version too. Well YEAH, I haven't been to the theatre but once in the last year and it sure wasn't to see Little Miss Sunshine. lol Anyhoo, I hate it when they can't think up another adjective/adverb/noun and just throw in the F bomb every other word. Noooooooo. I don't like legalized censorship, but I wish they would censor themselves!!! Gail
