made bacon, eggs and toast for breakfast IN THE MORNING and ate it together as a family at the kitchen (or DR) table?

This morning I woke up hungry and energetic.   After doing some household chores, I decided it was time for my coffee and cheerios.    I walked in the kitchen and decided that just was NOT going to get it today so made us breakfast.    Just like old times.   :-Þ

AND did you eat a big breakfast growing up?   I had bacon, eggs, and toast (or sometimes sausage & gravy) every morning of my life until I was about 32-3.   A few years after Terry and I got married I just quit making it in the morning.   He went to cereal and I went to a piece of toast.   The only time we eat breakfast (a big one) these days is when we have overnight company or the occasional eggs for dinner.

I'll make eggs for breakfast or bacon or toast or eggs and toast or bacon and toast but it's rare that I'll make all three together.  It's even more rare that we all sit at the table to eat breakfast together.  People usually get fed as they wake up.  Actually the only time we sit and have breakfast together at a table is when we go out for breakfast.

I love breakfast foods.  We had sausages for dinner last night and every once in a while I'll make pancakes or waffles for supper.

  • Forgot the second part of the question. We never had big breakfasts growing up. I usually had cereal with half a grapefruit sometimes, juice and a Flintstone vitamin. (Kubette)
  • I don't think many families even eat dinner together at the table any more. I find that kindof sad. People's schedules are just WAY too jam-packed these days. We love pancakes too, but I never got a waffle iron. We love french toast too! I will occasionally get a waffle when eating breakfast out. But when Terry has a day off, he likes to sleep in any more so we rarely ever eat breakfast out. Gail

One or two days a week!! When my trkdrvr is home!! I don't always join him, but he deserves a hot breakfast when he's home. One day a month a couple of his friends come over and I cook breakfast for all of them. That will be this Thursday!!

  • Well, you're nicer than I am. LOL I make Terry's lunch and dinner every day though. Well, except sometimes we eat dinner out thank goodness! I hope you're doing better by now. I'm sure you are--well a little bit at least. (((((((((TDQ)))))))

Generally, eggs for us are at dinnertime. However, this past spring I did fix a bacon and eggs breakfast. Usually, we hot or cold cereal and juice or toast and fruit for breakfast. Sometimes, on the weekends I'll make French toast or pancakes.

As a kid I liked Cream of Wheat and oatmeal. I also liked shredded wheat...remember back when it looked like a big haystack? I'm glad they have spoon size shredded wheat now. I ate French toast too. Once in a blue moon I'd eat scrambled eggs. By the time I was in college my daily breakfast was toast and coffee.

When the kids were growing up I tried to vary the breakfast menu...cooked breakfast everyday. When they got older and were at different schools with different start times we ate more cold cereals, toast and juice...my son was so happy to get to eat a bowl of Wheaties every morning....and I cooked all that breakfast stuff when he was younger...silly me. lol.

  • LOL re your son preferring wheaties! Kids are odd little ducks when it comes to food. I never did like the hot cereals. Ick! Momma said I spit it right out as a baby too. Terry sure loves his oatmeal. Sometimes when we are traveling, we'll treat ourselves to a big breakfast somewhere (usually somewhere we know is also serving grits.) Gail

I cook a breakfast like you mention nearly everyday. I cook it for my son. Instead of pork products I cook Butterball turkey bacon and Jenny O breakfast sausage.

I eat Shredded Wheat or Honey Clusters. We have orange juice and fresh fruit. He's a big milk drinker.

  • Sounds nutritious. I don't even remember now why we quit doing a big breakfast. I think it just gradually got reduced from me working, having the kids a lot, and doing the household stuff too. ? We also both quit drinking milk then and haven't had a glass since. I'm lactose intolerant, but I don't know why Terry doesn't drink it. Sounds awful now and I used to love milk! Gail

As a family?  I don't remember when we last sat down for that kind of breakfast.  Tom has it a lot;  always begins the day with that if he's playing golf that day.  I'm not big on eggs and bacon for breakfast any more.  Oh and Tom fixes his own.

If we have people to the lake we put out a big breakfast with Tom doing the majority of the cooking (the eggs and bacon).  I do a big bowl of mixed fruit and it's a joint effort for toast, bagels and English muffins.

  • Forgot the ''growing up'' part. Honestly - I don't remember what we had for breakfast. I think it was changed a lot....sometimes eggs and bacon, sometimes oatmeal, sometimes pancakes, sometimes cereal.... that's what I recall. eom mags
  • Yeah, we had pancakes a lot too. Terry usually makes breakfast when we have out-of-town company too. We got in the habit of that when I was a night owl and didn't want to get up at the crack of dawn and start right in cooking, plus being tired from all of the other cooking/work involved. The grandkids LOVE making breakfast with their Grandpa. Works for me! :-) Oh, and normally I don't want a big breakfast any more either. Just my coffee & cheerios or half a sausage sammich. Gail

Actually mu hubby likes to make breakfast. We don't do it every morning but often we have bacon (or Taylor Ham) eggs and whole grain toast. Yum!

  • We both enjoy the breakfast foods. I need to remember to make them more at night though. Sometimes french toast would be just fine to eat. We have too big of an evening meal most of the time. Oh, and Terry cooks breakfast good himself too. Just rarely ever does it. Gail

Hubby is not an egg eater but we have a cooked meal nearly 90% of the time and eat breakfast together every morning.
Morning doesn't start here until after 8:30 unless we're going somewhere. Today he cooked me French Toast and bacon. He had oatmeal with apple chunks.

While growing up, Dad had to leave very early in the morning to commute into SF so breakfast typically wasn't a family event.
I've always eaten a good breakfast. In junior high through college it was mostly cereal.

  • Terry makes his own oatmeal. It's rather like a meal (dessert-style.) He puts brown sugar, cinnamon & walnuts and of course, milk. I told him he might as well bake himself a pie! LOL I just eat my bowl of cheerios that keeps my cholesterol down. :-) Although in the last year or so, I occasionally fry up some sausage and have a piece on half a piece of bread w/ my cereal. I don't do it all the time, because that counteracts the cheerios probably. Gail

That kind of breakfast will never happen at my house IN THE MORNING.  Nope, no way, no how.  Now, at night or the afternoon, even.  Yes, it wasn't long ago.  My favorite is just an egg sandwich.  Rarely have the bacon at home, too messy.  But it sounds good.

  • Jenny, we only cook bacon in the microwave. I wasn't a bacon eater until a few years ago. Now I need it. LOL!/JoEllen
  • The only time I ever even BUY bacon is in the summer for BLTs of if a recipe calls for some specifically. I had gotten the pkg. that was in the fridge because I wanted one last BLT before I called summer officially over. Gail
  • Oh, and when the kids were little, I made the bacon in the oven. You could do a cookie sheet full and just bake it at 350 until done w/out turning it. For just the two of us, it isn't worth dirtying the cookie sheet. Gail
  • That is the way I make bacon. I use my Pampered Chef baking stone and it turns out perfect. No popping or anything.
