Anyone who has ever had a garage sale knows there are always early birds that come before you've even gotten the sleep out of yours eyes, much less put things out for the sale. I'm having one tomorrow and put an ad in the paper mentioning a few things we had, including Sugar's doghouse and her crate. :-(
This morning I had JUST gotten out of bed and gotten my clothes on (no brushed hair, etc.) when the doorbell rang. I decided it might be the mailman and headed to the door. About the time I hit the foyer this LOUD banging on the door started. It spooked me out! So I opened the tiny window and said, "Yes?" This lady says "Do you have a crate for sale?" I said "Yes, tomorrow I will." She asked if she could look at it and like an idiot, I took her around to see it. I hadn't even priced it yet and when she asked I spurted out $10. The cheapest one I saw at PetsMart when I looked last week was $179.99. I meant to ask $20 for it. DANG! She did take it. I had to make change for her too. GRRRRRRRR!!
Also, I happened to mention to my neighbor that I was having a sale, and she said she'd like to bring some stuff over too. I did have the good sense to call her this afternoon and tell her to wait until tomorrow morning to bring her stuff and a table to put it on because our garage is now loaded up with tables. Oh brudder. Now I'll have to keep track of her stuff that sells, yada yada.
I am sure tomorrow I will be glad to get rid of this stuff and make a little moolah, but I swore when we had our moving sale when we left FL that was my last one and here I am doing it again. This time I MEAN IT! :-Ş Thanks for listening to me!
Got anything to bith about today?

I used to work in the classified ad department at the local newspaper and some people would put this in their ad: ''Early birds pay double''.
They are very annoying. You start the sale at 8 a.m. and people are in your yard at 6 a.m. Geezzzzzzzzzz!!!!
I would never have (on principle) let her get away with that. If she went on after I told her the sale was tomorrow I would just repeat...tomorrow. The entrance alone would tick me off. Ring the doorbell AND knock early in the morning? She'd be lucky I didn't have her escorted to the curb (lol).
Isn't your neighbor going to man her own table and keep an eye on her own things? My neighbor let's anyone set up in her driveway each year but they are responsible for their own belongings.
You're a peach!
That woman was just plain rude. She's lucky you opened the door.
I've had two yard sales in my life and swore I'd never do another one. I sold my daughter's bike to a woman who wanted it for nothing so I think I sold it for $10. Imagine my surprise when that afternoon, on my way home, I spotted both the bike and the woman at another yard sale...she was selling it for $25!
Another year I joined a group from the church that were having a yard sale for the youth group. I had a table and a clothes rack full of things. One woman came over and just loaded up her arms with pants and a few skirts, then she walked over to another table telling me she'd be "right over there". Next thing I knew she was in her car and driving away with all the things in her arm plus more. Thief! That was it for me...no more yard sales. I'd rather just give it away to Goodwill or The Samaritan Center.
I empathize w/you Gail. I helped last week w/an estate sale across the street....the drama of it all!!...and I didn't even have a horse in the race!! Everything was priced to go (ridiculously cheap) and people still wanted a better deal. They started coming at the crack of dawn...(3 hrs. early) the antique dealers and hard core garage salers!! We had 4 boxes of 'free stuff' and everyone went to that first!! Since none of it was mine I could be a bit removed....but if it had been my stuff I'd have been insulted!! Because we did price it to go... the dealers thought we didn't know what we had. People can be so weird. I probably would have told that lad to come back after I had my cofffee at least!! She did get a deal....and now you don't have to deal with her tomorrow...just a hundred like her!! Have your neighbor price her stuff w/different labels from yours... that'll help alittle. Mostly try and keep your sense of humor and enjoy the circus!!
And now a little garage sale humor............................

Surprise. I'm going to bit*h about myself. I make plans to go shopping or anything that has a closing time. I fidget my time away. Then I look at the clock and it's too late to go. I've wasted a whole month with this kind of behavior. Thank goodness the supermarkets are open 24 hours a day here or we'd never have anything to eat.
Good luck with your garage sale. Next time save money and advertise on craigslist.
