We had a family wedding to go to in New Hampshire (my husband's nephew) so we decided to break up the trip with the kids and make a few stops.  I had never been to Boston, Maine or NH so we definitely got to see some new things.

Let me start out by saying any trip with two kids is no vacation, but the kids were great in the car and really rolled with the punches so to speak.  I was very proud of them!

We left Friday in a torrential downpour and it basically stayed like that from NJ to Mass.  By the time we got to Cambridge, it had slowed down but it still rained all night.  We were worried because the forecast looked like rain the whole time we were gone, but it turned out ok.  Once we settled into our hotel, we got back in the car (yuck) and took the kids to the Boston Children's Museum.  It was fantastic!  The kids loved it and had the best time.  The best part was, if you go after 5 on a Friday, you get  in for $1.  So 2.5 hours of entertainment cost us $4. total.  By about 7:30 the kids were tired and hungry so we walked up the street and had something to eat.  Back at the hotel the kids collapsed and we had a quiet night.

The next morning we stopped at the Boston Public Garden on our way out of town.  It was beautiful!  The day was overcast and cool, but the Garden is so pretty, all the flowers were in bloom and we took a ride on the swan boats.  We left town and headed to Kittery, Maine.  I would love to go back to Maine.  So pretty!  By the time we got there, the sun had come out and it was a bit warmer.  We ate lunch at Warren's Lobster House and I had a lobster that had just been caught that morning.  It was unbelievable.  Kittery also has amazing outlet stores and we went to Coach (yeah!)  After I spent some money, we headed for our hotel in New Hampshire.  I've never been there and was surprised at how rural the state is.  We went to the wedding which was very nice and we all had a great time.

The next day we drove to Mystic, Ct. We've been there several times so there was nothing unexpected but the kids enjoyed themselves so much.  If you're ever up there, go to the Seaport Museum.  It's a replica of an old whaling village and there are whaling and fishing ships to tour.  The buildings all have demonstrations about what life was like back then.   My two year old was much more intersted in going on the boats than anything else, but my 7 year old leared a lot on this trip.  Monday we went to the Mystic Aquarium and had a wonderful time.  They have great exhibits and it's fun for everyone.

We drove home yesterday and all in all, it was a great trip.  I would definitely head back to see more of Maine and would love to do some of the historical sites in Boston.  It was very exciting to go to some places we've never been.

Sounds wonderful!    I had a lobster in Baltimore's Inner Harbor, but I'm thinking Maine would be the place to get the real deal!    See me drool.

I'm glad you all had a great trip!!    It is always a lot of fun to experience new places/things imo.

Glad to hear a fine time was had by all. You're blessed if your kids like museums. Mine LOVED them, and I always felt lucky. Wherever we went, they wanted to know what museums were there, and we all had a grand time.

I have lobster envy now...

Yep we sure got the rains here in Jersey didn't we!! I love Mystic and Boston. Haven't been to Maine but have always wanted to stay in a cabin on the water and eat seafood. Don't even know if they have cabins near the water (lol). New Hampshire is a beautiful state as well.

Your trip sounds fab. My hubby and I once took our flower girl (girlfriend's niece) when she was nine with us to Canada. Good kid but we all got antsy with that drive but it was a fun vacation and we hit many New England spots on the way.

I'll make note of some of your recommendations in case I make a return that a way.
