Topic: Ever done this?

Additional Comments:

On the way to Tulsa Monday I thought of THE best topic for the board.    Even thought of a great topic title and told Terry about it.   Do you think I could remember it after I got home Monday night?    Of course not.    I do this pretty often.

Do YOU do it?

Oh, sure. When that happens I like to think it means my brain is just full...no space to store anything else. lol.

When watching the dance shows, I take notes so I can remember what I want to say when I get to the board to discuss them.

In my younger years I'd laugh at my dad holding what he was reading at arm's length. Then, I got older and started doing the same thing...wasn't funny anymore. Now, I'm laughing at him for having Post-It notes on the kitchen cabinet door and thinking I should start stocking up on Post-It note pads. lol.

  • I have post-it and other notes both on my kitchen cabinet by the phone in there. Takes up room, but I need them! I can't depend on the calendar (?) any more either. I need the big-arsed notes right in front of my face. :-Þ I have ones in there now to call my stepdaughter Friday night (lol she wanted me to remind HER of something), to make a cake for a community dinner tonight, and to pick up a woman who needs a ride to church Sunday. I hope none of them get hidden. I depend on them! And my arms aren't long enough any more. I have to get myself some stronger glasses. Gail

  • I always have a pen in my purse, but usually the only paper in there is a receipt for the grocery or something. I think I will invest in a little note pad especially for my purse. But I always THINK I'll remember it. Gail

This was a plotline on Mad Men several weeks ago. One of the admen stays late in his office drinking and trying to be inspired. He finally is and is overjoyed. My husband said write it down several times. He awakes from his drunken stupor and nada - can't remember a thing.

I actually sleep with a pad and pen next to my bed. I have had many ideas that come from my dreams and if I didn't write them down - they're just dreams I forget a second after I wake.

  • Yeah, I just said to Bunk below that a pen and paper is the only way I'm going to remember these days. If we had that gizmo to google our brains, we'd probably have enough topics to last the rest of our lives from all of the forgotten ones over the years. :-) Gail

yes, Yes, and YES. All the time. I do it with Facebook as well... come up with a clever status and forget it by the time I log on. Irritating. I need to be taking more fish oil supplements or something that helps the memory.

Here's some advice we could all try since we all have the same problem. LOL
The next time you have a fabulous idea for a post, PICTURE yourself doing it. Let's say you have some clever advice about fabric softener. Then just PICTURE YOURSELF doing the laundry... putting wet clothes in the dryer, how does it make you feel, what do you smell, use all your senses. It will actually help solidify the idea in your memory.

  • I'd probably wonder why I was picturing myself do laundry. LOL I think the only way it would work for me is to carry around a pen and paper all the time AND take it out of my purse and USE IT! Gail

I do that all the time.  Makes me so mad!

I also hear a song and think I'll definately download it from iTunes.  10 minutes later I can't remember what it was!  Lol, guess that saves me some money!

Sometimes (rarely) I'll think to write something down!

  • I know that if I DON'T write it down, it'll be history (the thought that is.) I do the same thing with iTunes too. Ha! Gail (who is taping the CMA awards tonight)
  • You're taping the CMAs??? I'm in shock! I'm watching it but have low expectations. I like my ''old'' country, not the new rock country. I hope they have some decent ballads and not the hard rock guitar blaring stuff. Oh geez, Kid Rock was just introduced. GO BACK to the rock scene. Well, so far I've only heard ONE of the ''single of the year'' award songs. Back to my iPod - it has the good stuff on it. I'll watch the whole show though just to see Sugarland and George Strait. eom mags
  • Yes. I worked the CMA's twice when I worked at the Opry so it's more of a nostalgia trip for me. An old friend of mine was producing the show up until last season. It has changed dramatically from the old days though. Ya think!?!?! However, I confess I will most probably FF thru most of it. Gail

I have done that too many times to count.

I forget a lot of things. I will put my purse down when I come in the house and a few hours later I can't find it. Shawn finds it everytime, in the meantime I am freaking out that someone got in and they stole it.

The other night I took my name tag off of my uniform to wash it. In the length of time it took to wash and dry it I forgot where I put it. I was freaking out because we lose 10 cents an hour on our pay cheque if we aren't wearing it. One would think I would have put it in the laundry room (that I tore apart looking), Shawn found it on the coffee table. Why I put it there I have no idea because I don't get dressed in the living room lol.

Shawn has joked about me putting sticky notes on my body so I remember things. I would be covered in them if I did.

I have things in really safe places, they are so safe I have no idea where they are.

Last year I bought Shawn's Grandmas and Great Aunts Christmas presents really early. I put them away in a safe place. I found them a couple of weeks ago lol.

Do I forget a lot, you betcha!

  • Yes, the aging mind is fascinating (in a BAD way.) Terry and I both can lose something that we have JUST had in our hand when we haven't even moved. :-O We usually have to stand up to locate the missing item. Arggggh. Oh, I and couldn't function w/out my notes. I have about four to myself on the kitchen counter as we speak for this week. I get rid of one and two more appear, etc. Gail

Years ago I bought one of those micro voice recorders for the sole purpose of taking verbal notes when a thought crossed my mind.
Have I EVER used it? Well, I did make a love note to hubby but I don't even know if he ever listened. I'm not sure where the stupid thing is any more.

  • That reminds me. I made a tape of me playing the guitar and singing some of Terry's favorites for him JUST IN CASE prior to my mastectomy. He has yet to listen to it. I guess he knows he can get the real deal. I like TDQ's idea below. Google for the brain. Gail
