Topic: Guess what I got today? (A Contest...)

Additional Comments:

It's something I've been meaning to get for almost 10 years. It wasn't necessary in the small town where I used to live, but is here in our small city.

It involves something that is available to almost everyone in the USA.

This is due largely in part to someone with the initials A.C.

It is something that is drastically changed since the last time I used one.

Go ahead and guess... There will be a prize for the first correct answer!

Hey!  I didn't get a chance to play.  No problem though, I never would have guessed the correct answer!  Congraulations on your new card!

I had one but it expired back in the 1990's ... not sure exactly when.  After we got the internet, I never could keep up with the library's time frame for reading a book.  Now I just own more than I will ever read.

So what is going to be your very first check-out?

I'm reading ''The Friday Night Knitting Club''.  It's on the best seller list and is supposed to be like ''Steel Magnolias'' set in Manhatten.  It's ok....a little slow for me but I'm liking the story.  Oddly, I think in this case the movie would be better than the book and I never say that!

  • My first checkout is The Blood Ballad by Rett MacPherson. She writes a series called the Tori O'Shea mysteries, which I love. This is her latest and part of me is sad because I bought all the others, and will have to return this one. I guess I can watch for it used if I really want one to keep. I just finished a book called Un-Bridaled by someone named Kris Radish. The book was a hoot, and each time I picked it up, there was something I LOL'd out loud at. Have you ever read any of her books? I wonder if the others are as good. I looked at the library's website and they have a couple of others of hers, but both are checked out. Oh, I meant to say, the library's website is what really sold me on going. I can look up the books I'm interested in, and if they're checked out, it'll tell me their due date. I can put them on 'my reading list' or request them next to be notified when they're available. It's a really great tool! And the 'card catalog' as we learned it in high school is non-existent. It's all on computer now. MUCH faster!! Let me know if your book picks up, and I may put it on my reading list! - Doopy
  • ''Un-Brideled'' (sp?) sounds like my kind of book. It sounds a little bit like Sophie Kinsella's books. Her first one was ''The Shopaholic''. I laughed out loud while reading that one too. I''ll go to Amazon and check out the one your are going to read first! There was one set of books that I decided that I wanted the whole series in hardback. It is the Harry Potter books. My very first one was paperback so I gave it away and got a used hardback in excellent condition from Amazon. I still have the very last book to read. I want to start it but it's soooo long and I'm like everyone else....I'm not sure I want the whole series to come to an end. Sometimes I wish I could turn off the tv and the computer for all time and just read! I find that impossible to do though. I'd miss the family here way too much! eom mags
  • Hey Doopy! I just looked at Amazon and ''Un-Bridaled'' really looks like my kind of book when I'm looking for something light-hearted and fun. But it was written by someone name Eileen Rendahl not Kris Radish. There were some books by Kris Radish so I'm not sure which you liked better - the book or the author! Lol, they both sounded good. eom mags
  • OH YEAH, Kris Radish was the author of the book I read before this one. It was (ahem) a VERY interesting and funny story called 'The Sunday List of Dreams' or something, about a woman who retires and decides to find her long lost daughter, only to find she is running a sex toy empire in NYC. I'll check out some of hers too. Un-Bridaled was better. It was a good fast read. - Doopy

    WE HAVE A WINNER!!!!

    Congratulations,

    TORI!!!!

We've lived here going on 10 years, and I drive through the area where the library is on an almost daily basis. However, between my mom, aunts and friends, I often have more books than time. I finally surfaced from a book and didn't have one waiting, so in I went. And I saw ALLLLL those books that I won't have to wait for via the familiar route.

So, Tori, there will be a prize in the mail, but give me a few days to gather it. Thanks for playing!

  • Way cool! The key clues...get not buy, available to most Americans, and a lot different to use since the last time... led me to library card. :)Tori
  • The A.C. was for Andrew Carnegie. I remember when I was a kid seeing his name on libraries, and thinking he was a man who owned all the libraries. - Doopy
  • Congrats! When I looked at the topic this morning, I noticed ''got'' and knew I'd missed something. I thought everyone had a library card. Even I have one, but I couldn't tell you the last decade I used it. Good for you, Tori. I could have guessed 100 times and not gotten it. (Charl)
