Topic: Product Endorsement

Additional Comments: I can't figure out how to cut and paste pictures, but I do have a great product to endorse.  I know a few people here recently put in pergo or laminate flooring and there were some posts about what to use to clean it.  Shirla suggested Bruce floor cleaner and you can get it in Lowes.  Naturally, since then, I haven't been anywhere near a Lowes so I've been using my Swiffer Wet Jet.  It cleans it fine, but definitely leaves a film or buildup.  This past weekend I decided to give Method Walnut Floor Cleaner a shot.  It's in the all natural (green) section of cleaning products and I've used their all purpose cleaner in my kitchen for a while.  The floor cleaner is fantastic!  It takes any buildup right off, didn't streak and smells wonderful.  They have a special mop you can get, but I just used the wetjet mop (without the wetjet cleaner).  It's for sealed hardwood floors and laminate only, no tile.  It was cheap too, less than $4.00 for the bottle.

You'll probably think I'm nuts, but I like carpet. They keep the lower level in a house warmer during the winter and there's traction when you walk bare-foot on them during the summer.

Years ago carpet flooring was considered a luxury. Now it's laminate or ceramic tiling that's the rage. I moved to Las Vegas 15 years ago and all houses had wall-to-wall carpeting. All walls were painted white or off-white. Light colored walls made the house look cooler during the 100+ degrees summer months.

Now most houses have laminate and ceramic tile floors. Seems that every room has one dark colored painted wall. I like off-white paint on the walls because every color goes with it.

Give me wall-to wall light colored carpet and off-white painted walls. Anyday!

This is one of the things I love about our board. The sharing of info like this.

I've been in a 'less is more' phase here lately, so my tool of choice on my laminate is my plain old swiffer with a cotton towel fastened to it. But I'll be on the lookout for this product. I love the 'spray and mop' idea.

I just have to jump here and say...laminate flooring is great.

It is so easy to clean and looks nice. I've tried some of the commercial cleaners and they worked fine, but the retailer where we purchased our flooring suggested using vinegar water. It works great...I keep a quart size spray bottle with a solution of about a quarter cup of vinegar and the rest water ready to go all the time....just spray and mop. It's cheap and green.

  • yep, two parts water and one part vinegar! You're right. That's what I always use on my vinyl. I just like the Bruce Laminate cleaner because it gives it a shine kinda, and it repells dust a bit longer than when I just use the vinegar and water. But yes yes yes, that is good to use Tori!! Go green. (shrial)

Good for you!!  As long as it specifically says you can use it on LAMINATE you should be fine.  (I get a slight discount as Lowe's because we install for them, and I ''advertise'' by using their products and telling people where they can get it. I wish they'd GIVE it to me.  They should!! )

Glad you're enjoying your floor.  YAY!

I still love my new laminant floor, but I did notice a scratch already... :(
I can only see it early in the morning when the sun shines in at a low angle, and I have to get down low to see it, but it's there. LOL

I don't have a Lowes near me but still have the Bruce cleaner on my shopping list and hope to find it. (Maybe I'll give this natural brand a try.) However, all I've been doing so far is just damp mopping (hardly damp at all) and it's been working fine.

  • damp mopping is great, just no sloppy mopping. too wet will ruin the floor. It sounds like you have the right method, and it's CHEAP! LOL! (shrila)
