A few months ago I actually won something.    At the Newcomer's Club there are always two door prizes and I won a chocolate fountain.    I was so happy!    Well, at last month's meeting we were discussing our upcoming potluck and everyone wanted me to bring the chocolate fountain.    So I did.

I bought pineapple, strawberries and nanners for dipping into the chocolate.   Read the instructions for the thing, and called the hostess to ask if I could come over early to plug it in and melt the chocolate so it would be going when people got there.     Everything went perfectly.    I turned on the fountain and voila - the chocolate was the right consistency, etc.

About TWO other people had gotten there to see it when...... POP.   Off it went.    It was small and cheap.    I guess it burned its little motor out in a whopping two-three minutes.    Oh well, we all just dipped our fruit in the chocolate.    Luckily someone else brought a cake too.    :-)

We normally only meet in someone's home on the night of the potluck in May (don't meet in the summer) but we're doing a book discussion next month and I volunteered our house.    I just hope the weather is pretty enough to be on the patio!    We ate outside on their deck last night and were still sitting there talking at 9:00 and realized we were in the dark.    I think it was the most beautiful day we've had.

Re the chocolate fountain, I think they're wonderful, but don't recommend a cheapee version.   :-P

we are having a chocolate fountain at Larzie's wedding reception.  I had asked the caterer about bringing our own, but she said that the cheaper versions usually burn out very easily and could create a fire hazard....good think ya'll had a back up dessert.....remember....you can never have too many desserts  :o)

  • They're scrumptious and you won't regret it sugarbee. Yeah, I learned the hard way about the cheapey version. I had a gut feeling as soon as I took it outta the box, but figured it would go for ONE night. Gail

I love those chocolate fountains.  So many goodies to dip into that delicious chocolate.  The only one I've seen though was a big one at an Easter Buffet.  They had all the fruit plus cubes of cake and whole mashmallows for dipping too.  The marshmallows were my favorite ... sort of messy but yummy!

Glad the mosquitoes didn't find the party!  We played 9 holes of golf with a new group Sunday afternoon.  There were a lot of beginners...some just taking up the game so they only dropped a ball near the green and did some chipping and putting.  There was a barbecue after that and we did the same thing ... sat outside and chatted well after the sun had gone down.  FUN!  I'm looking forward to the next one but told the group I probably won't be playing when it gets really hot and humid.  Why can't it just stay ''perfect'' ... like in the 70's???

  • I wonder if she didn't spray something around the deck to keep the mosquitos away, because if there is one within ten miles of me, it hones right in for a landing and usually delivers at least three bites. I will run inside at the first bite, because I've almost been eaten alive a few times. Btw, I used milk chocolate because I heard most people like it the best, but I'm a dark chocolate gal. I want my next fountain experience to have that. :-) Gail

The last two company Christmas parties I have attended had a chocolate fountain.  They are not only good but SO pretty.  Glad everything turned out OK in the end.

  • I have been to several functions in the last ten years that have had them and that is why I was excited I won one. Not something I would spend the bucks on, and besides a good one would require a lot of storage space I imagine. They're really nice though. Gail

Chocolate fountains always look so inviting. It is disappointing when you're going for a different presentation and you have a malfunction. However, I'm sure no one minded just dipping the fruit in a bowl of chocolate.

And, it sounds like a good time was had by all. It's so nice to be able to use the patio/deck/porch for entertaining this time of year.

  • I asked the hostess if she would mind pitching the chocolate fountain (out of earshot of the others since one of their husbands donated it from his bank for one of our prizes.) I was surprised the mosquitos didn't eat moi alive last night. They must not have heard about our party. LOL Hey, I just got a warning from MD about my langauge. Apparently the filter doesn't like ''eat moi'' when you use 'me' instead. Gail
