...get both your seasonal flu shot and H1N1 shot? There's so much controversy about the H1N1 shot that it seems that only about half the population intends to get it. Personally, I don't plan on leaving things to chance...I'm going to be getting both shots. How about you?

I never get any shots for things like this. Karen gets the regular flu shot every year. She is on vacation this week (our 38th anniversary) and she got her flu shot Monday and was really sick Tuesday and Wednesday. She looked on the internet and found her symptoms exactly matched those of the side effects listed for the flu shot. I feel bad for her, losing two days of her much needed vacation due to illness.
I should get the H1N1 because I have a chronic illness , but I won't be getting it because I am too old.

No on both shots.
I do know you can not get the flu from the shots, it's a dead virus they are injecting you with but I've had the flu shot twice before and both times I have been ill for at least 5 days afterward.
The problem is even though it's a dead virus, some people's bodies think it needs to fight it and hence the reaction just as if it's a live virus.
I think it was Mags who posted the tips on how to keep the bugs away. I was already washing the hands and trying my hardest to keep them away from touching my face, but I've added daily nose irrigations to my routine.
I wish people would be courtesy enough to stay home when they are contagious but I understand work and school must be done so we all have to suffer.

Timely topic!
Tom and I got our seasonal flu shots the 1st week in October.
Today I had my mammogram. Since I had met my deductable on my insurance, I have also scheduled a bone density test for Friday.
I got a letter from my insurance company recommending vaccinations for Shingles and Pneumoncoccal. I checked with the company and they are both covered. We stopped by another office to see if Tom would be covered on his insurance and found out he would.
So we went to our doctor's office to inquire about both of us getting these vaccinations fully expecting that we would need to come back for appointments. They weren't busy so after a short wait, we both got the vaccinations! We both got a shot in each arm. No lollipops though.
I did get a pink carnation and a pink pen from the mammogram lady though.
As for the swine flu shot we are too old. :-( If they had enough to go around, I would get it though. I was rewinding a tape and that show ''The Doctors'' (I think that's the name) was on. They said if they had had enough notice, it would have been in the normal flu shot this year. I definately think young people should get it.
Between going to the hospital for my mammo and the doctor's office for the shots, I think I used half a small bottle of GermX. I kept forcing it on Tom too. I'm getting as much preventive stuff done as possible since my deductable was met this year! I'd get another colonoscopy if they would let me but it hasn't been long enough since my last one. The endoscopy that I had a couple of months ago cost us about $2000.00 out of pocket. That's ridiculous for the short amount of time actually put in by the doctor and the procedure and that wasn't even the full cost.

I won't be getting either. Haven't had a flu since the mid 80s and too old for this Swine Flu.
I've never had a flu shot and won't be getting one this year.
I've only had the flu once...in 1959. At least I think it was the flu...might have just been a nasty cold...I missed a week of school though...that was worse than being sick...I loved school.
I don't think there's much chance that I could get the H1N1 shot, even if I wanted it. I haven't heard/read the statistics for Seattle, but in Spokane (200+miles to the east), they only have about 30,000 shots for over 300K population. It's a 10% so far and I don't think I'm in a "risk" category. Plus, I've heard such extreme cautions about this flu. Some say the danger/severity has been hyper-inflated and others say it's minimal.
I already got my seasonal shot, much against the wishes of my chiropractor. There are warnings about the mercury in it and some other factors, but I'm a creature of habit.
