Subject: Whoa. You have totally misunderstood what I wrote. My observation about what human nature finds comforting about religion was not meant to belittle people of faith. For what it's worth, I believe in God. (Although I concede that there's no proof, I just can't imagine funny things happening without Someone laughing at them. On the other hand, I've never met a cat with a sense of humour, so I think that cats would have trouble relating to that concept of God.) I also know many people of faith whose generosity is universal - they hate war and gossip, and want to be friends with everybody, so they believe that God feels the same way. Mitch is just the other side of the same coin. The temptation to make God in one's own image is the same whether one does good or evil.

Subject: I totally understand Brhannada's statement. It's the ''chosen ones'' syndrome as I like to call it. There are churches and cults out there that believe they are the ''chosen ones'' and they will be spared the rod while all the sinners will burn in the lake of fire. cgem eom
