Topic: Yet Another Firing For Budget Reasons

Additional Comments: Spent the day yesterday outside OLTL's new studio and I got a few tips from the actors going in and out.  Florenzia (Tea) has been fired and it is expected that Mark Lawson is next.  Everyone is nervous as the budget ax continues to fall in light of the low ratings.  One actor even talked about cancellation - how the actors wouldn't be surprised if that happened before the year's out.  No surprise there.

  • 320 West 66th St. Same place that they tape The View.

Wow, with the possible (if not probable) demise of soaps as we know them, what are all those unemployed long-term soap actors going to do?  They are only so many guest-starring gigs available on the Law & Order or CSI shows, or Lifetime movie opportunities.  I wonder how difficult it is to start auditioning for roles if you've been steadily only working on soaps for 10+ years?

  • There are a lot more than one or two primetime shows being shot in NYC! (The Good Wife & 30 Rock are just two of them.) Some of the actors will go to theater & commercial work, while others will relocate where they can find work--be it in LA, Toronto, LA or Vancouver. Just like actors have always done. eom
  • Rosebud, aren't you always the first one to pretend to know what actors will and will not do? Remember your gems like Lynn Herring or Stuart Damon will never do a New York soap because they are CA based? lol.

Why don't they just cancel the whole show? There is not a single story line that is interesting expect one and that will be ending soon.

  • The answer isn't to cancel the show, it is to raise the standards & expectations, get marketing into a minor role & let the writers write, the producers produce & the actors act. eom
  • So the actors aren't acting? Sheesh.
  • Kim: They aren't doing their best work! There are enough vets out there, who's work the audience knows well, who aren't being given the material that showcases them well. They aren't getting challenging material by a long shot!! Acting isn't the priority of TPTB anymore, it is all about 'hit your mark, say your lines & move on'. That shows. eom
  • What do you think they did in the days of live tv? They always had to say their lines and hit their mark and move on. This is nothing new! Oh wait, according to you, actors don't act.

I wouldn't be a bit surprised if this is true.  As soon as Kelly came back and Todd started sniffing around her, Tea became superfluous.  And maybe the writers realized they erred badly with the Todd/Dani story.  Maybe people weren't swallowing the Kool-Aid that Todd was the bestest dad ever and the writers are cutting their losses.

I will miss Mark Lawton much more than FL as I really, really like Brody.  He is the smartest man in Llanview.  However, with this Regress Jess story (kudos to Rhonda for the coinage) he has also become superfluous.  Well, not to me, but to TPTB.  And that, as Rhonda so succinctly put it, makes me sad.

  • I won't miss Tea/Fl, but I will miss Brody. I was hoping that Brody would be the one to help Jessica remember and they would reunite. I don't want a Cristian/Jessica retread. I like him with Layla. ladfan

So, they're going to have Tea take off and leave her daughter with the barely known, totally despised father?

Brody hasn't made much of an impression on me, but Gak, with Layla going this must mean Cris and Jessie will be back together for sure.  Gak, gak, gak!

Good, I am sick of Tea and her brat. As for Mark Lawson, the guy has made so little impression on me that I had to GOOGLE him to find out exactly what character he plays. I hate Brody. The entire becoming a police officer thing is so bogus. Actually, virtually everything they do that involves the law is bogus but making a guy who has had a mental breakdown and taken a hostage and actually shot someone is over the top even for these idiotic writers.

  • Fish, a recurring geek cop, shot a woman in the back and killed her. He walked away like it was nothing. At least Brody has dealt with what he did. Fish couldn't care less that he killed someone.
  • Fish is a cop. That was in the line of duty to protect others. Brody was not a cop when he did those things, plus he was mentally unbalanced at the time. Big difference! ~T.
