Topic: What? No reaction to show RH as Todd as Marty's rapist?

Additional Comments: After all the pissing and moaning that's been going on about the show's supposed failure to acknowledge Todd's facial transformation when TSJ took over the role, they did in fact honor that plot point. I thought it was amazing to see the faces of all four of the original players, including Kirk Geiger, though I did wonder how Marty in her amnesiatic state immediately went to Llannet instead of Google for her search.

Hopefully the writers will remember that Tea has never seen Todd's new face either when she first encounters him!

I couldn't believe RC went there.  It's utterly ridciulous to use the Todd-Had-Plastic-Surgery card as a plot point.  IMHO, it's best to forget that an actor is a recast (Blair??) and just move on.  I do not consider it a "nod to history" to bring up something lame like plastic surgery to keep Todd's charade going.  In fact, the "real Todd" would've insisted on keeping his scar. Honoring history would be dropping this story and acknowledging that Todd and Marty made their peace.  For chrissakes, find something else for SH to do.

I also do not like what RC has done to dear Addie.  Guess I'm in the minority.

  • The difference between say a ''Blair'' recast and the ''Todd'' recast is that Blair just showed up one day looking tall and blonde instead of Asian. That's the way most recasts are handled. The new actor just shows up. But Todd coming back looking like someone else was a big story line. And unlike the ''Max'' recast where Max was burned in a fire and came back as a difrferent actor, only to have JdP return a year later with a wink and a nod that ''Max is back'', TSJ has been Todd for several years and I sincerely doubt RH is ever coming back to play Todd. So, at least the writers are respecting our memories enough to know that a previous writing regime made a big deal about Todd's plastic surgery. Wanda Wolek
  • To me, it's not even about the fact that RH vacated the role and that there was a story about the *new face.* It's that Marty not remembering her rapist because he has a new face is a cheap cop-out. And that headline in The Sun about the publisher with the different face was never actually a part of what aired at that time (as far as I know). My point was: why lift from the lame storylines to advance the present day plot? Especially when Todd undergoing plastic surgery was a laceration on the character./countess2

I'll give them "credit" since they at least acknowledged Todd’s face change. But they never explained how Marty knew Todd when she returned to town. How did Marty know the new-Todd?

  • It was all over the news, that's how she knew. -- Rhonda eom

Maybe going to Llannet was similar to remembering how to play the piano. :-)

I've said it many times that RC respects OLTL history.  Some hacks would have brushed aside the fact that Todd looked very different at one time, pretending it didn't happen.  But RC doesn't.  I kind of laughed at the photo of the four of the frat boys - sure looked like a publicity still to me.  And what news format shows a photo without a caption underneath?  Even so, it was a nice nod to history.  And I give Todd a nano-point for making it clear that Kevin wasn't involved in the rape.  As he was explaining the reasons to Marty, it was so clear that Todd really envies Kevin for his childhood.  It's another reason why I think Kevin Buchanan should return to Llanview.  Not just to interact with his family, but to prove a foil to Todd in business.  There's so much subtext to that relationship, all centered on jealousy over the place of each man in Viki's life.

  • You're right, Todd and Kevin are great foils -- and I especially liked the chemistry between TSJ and DG's Kevin. If ME's writing career takes off and John McBain leaves Llaview (I should be so lucky), Kevin and Marty would make an interesting match. I know he's with Kelly off-camera in London, but I never respected that pairing. Bring back DG as Kevin! -- Rhonda eom
  • I'll second that - bring back DG as Kevin! Wanda
