Topic: Okay, I take it back about the Time Travel story

Additional Comments:

I was sooo not looking forward to Bo and Rex travelling back to 1968.  I still shudder at the memory of the Old West story.  So, color me surprised to be liking Bo and Rex's Amazing Adventure.  It's actually a send-up of the Old West story and I'm LOL at some of it.  RSW and JPL are great with their reactions as Bo and Rex stuck in a time warp.  And, obviously, the show is not trying to recreate past characters and relationships.  I mean really - Nigel as Chuck, Sr.?  Too funny

I also wasn't crazy about Viki going back to heaven, but when she said, "This is somehow so familiar" I knew that RC and his crew where giving a nod to that story.  Also loved Viki saying a couple times to ET's Megan, "You remind me so much of my Jessica".  I hope both stories continue with a liberal dose of humor.  I'm enjoying the laughs.

I am pleasantly surprised at how this is being done.  It is nice having some comic relief and I like the original twist of Rex and Bo still being in the present time mentally and not just doing the whole ho-hum thing of actually playing Bo and Asa 40 years ago.  I am impressed with this new writer or writers giving an old soap staple a fresh approach.  However, why ruin it with this Mendorra crap? What a drag.  Everytime any soap does one of these phony country storyline (any viewer of Guiding Light - think San Cristobal) it is an embarrassing mess, and it always seems to involve royalty which makes it twice as funny (not in a good way).  The acting in the Mendorra SL is also really bad.

I am enjoying this week.  As others have said, not so much with the Mendorra story...but the rest is good.

The 1968 storyline does bother me when I think of the historical inaccuracies.  So, I will try not to think about them!!
and I have to turn on the Mute for Nat/Maria and her horrendous accent.

But I am loving Bo and Rex's reaction to everything.  However, I hope they don't stop David from being born!!!  If they do that, he won't be there to convince Dorian to save Viki!  LOL.

  • Oh, MA's horrendous accent and simpering as Maria was truly cringeworthy. Especially when the adult Maria didn't have an accent. But she wasn't the only cringeworthy element - Jared's ''Clint'' was right up there with her. Horribly bad. Wanda
  • I was worried she would use an accent, when I saw she was playing Maria. I am, also, not impressed with GigiVickers accent. Not everyone in Texas is FROM Texas, and not everyone has a southern accent.

And has the ranch always been close to Paris? I thought many moons ago, it was out in west Texas... not that I have a good soap memory.... eom/Soapness

  • Well Jared and Nat are two pretty lousy actors so I am no surprised they could not pull this off. LOL eom Sierra
  • Jared doesn't need to act!!! He's got the big sideburns!! I knew they were going to suck like nobody's business! eom/Soapness
  • But Jared's sideburns are the only thing I like about his Clint. Clint had those same sideburns when he first came to Llanview. I love the show's little nods to history. As much as I hate the Mendorra story there's a little wink to the audience about Sarah going over the falls. Now, is she pregnant? Will she find a hugely pregnant Gabrielle-like character living in a cabin? Will Sarah show up at Cris's wedding to someone else passing off the Gabby-character's baby as her own? Inquiring minds want to know. Wanda
  • LOL... I like the big sideburns. 'They' who suck are the actors! (I used to beg my father to grow some sideburns like that. he never would.) eom/ Soapness
  • Clint joined the show in 1979, eleven years after this storyline...
  • I stand by what I said. Clint had those kind of sideburns. I've seen them in clips from the past. Wanda

The whole show was a blast. The time travel stuff is hilarious, seeing Agnes Nixon was a treat, Viki in Heaven was fun, and Sarah heading toward the waterfall like her mom many years ago had me on the edge of my seat. Good show all around, and a great way to celebrate the anniversary.

  • All the time Sarah was floating in that raft I wondered why she didn't just jump out and swim to the opposite shore. Since I was flipping the channel when the Mendorra storyline came on did I miss Carlo's threat to kill Tina and Cris if she ''jumped ship''? Wanda
  • I can't remember if Carlo threatened anybody, but if I'm mistaken, Sarah is either handcuffed or tied up, so if she jumped out of the raft she'd probably drown. (Edward)

I agree Wanda, I am enjoying it so far.  I nearly fell out of my chair when Nigel appeared as Chuck Sr.  I am enjoying Viki's trip to heaven as well as I enjoyed it back in the 80's the first time she went.  I have that on a tape somewhere I haven't seen it in ages, I should try to look for it.

I too, had to laugh at Rex's expression when Bo said the TV would have to ''warm up,'' LOL! I tend to forget that the young people today don't know anything about what was commonplace when we were that young!

I laughed even harder when Bo said ''Balsom, we aren't in Kansas anymore,'' LOL!

  • Oh, and Rex's ''Houston, we've got a problem'' when the newsreader was talking about Jack Ruby. Wanda
  • Who's Jack Ruby?
  • There are other things on the internet besides this board, you know. Look it up. Do they not even teach that in schools today? eom/sea
  • I thought the newsman talked about James Earl Ray, not Jack Ruby
  • Safeguard, you're right, the newsman was talking about James Earl Ray, not Jack Ruby. I kind of knew I had the wrong name when I typed it. Wanda

I feel just like you do.  I thought I would hate the Bo/Rex story, but I am enjoying.  I knew I was going to like Viki going to heaven story.  I love it.  it is very nice ot see ET as Megan, Mel and Ben.  I loved Dorian/Mel.  I hope Mel talks some sense into Dorian.  Why can't Mel come back to the show?  I loved them together.  I love seeing ES/ET together again.  The icing on the cake was when Ben showed up at the end.  MD looks handsome as ever.  I hope we see more of him today.  I realy don't care for the Mendorra story, but have to suffer through it because of the Vega brothers.  I don't like AE's Tina at all.  AE seems to have just one expression on her face all the time.  I do like the actor who plays Cain.  He is good.

    Replies: (list all replies)

  • I'm with you regarding Andrea Evans. The only time I really cared for her was when she and Gabrielle would pull their Lucy and Ethel stunts. The rest of the time, meh. IMO, AE has always played Tina as a bimbo. It's the way her eyes are always wide, her head tilted slightly up, the little button she makes with her over-glossed lips, and the little ''yips'' she makes when ''scared''. I don't see any great love for Sarah coming from her either. Now, Cain is another matter. Loved the character and the actor from the first day he came to Llanview. I was very disappointed when he left. Seeing him again is a gift. Wanda
  • It does seem a little strange not to see Cain with Karen Witter's Tina... but I'm glad they got him back.
  • Wanda, you understand exactly what I mean about AE. I didn't see her as Tina before, now I know I didn't miss much. I see no love for Sarah either. ladfan
  • Ah, Cain and Tina. I really liked them. And then Cord had to come back with amnesia and ruin it all. Wanda

I haven't watched the episode in full yet, but I wish RC could have done this without totally screwing up all the history.  Olympia was banished in 1956 when Bo was 5 years old (according to the 1981 storyline) and Asa told everyone she was dead.  Also when Cord arrived on the scene in 1986, he was a 25 year old man and it was explained that Clint and Maria were 16 years old and after Asa broke them up, Clint left home and headed out to Arizona where he remained until 1979.  I know we haven't seen Olympia yet, but there are reports that Lindsay will be playing her in the 1968 storyline.  I just think RC could have still told the story without screwing with the history of the show.  (It's funny, in the 1981 story about Olympia, Clint was 11 years older than Bo since Clint was 16 when Olympia was banished and Bo was only 5; over the years, Clint's has been de-SORAS'ed to be closer in age to Bo...lol)

    Replies: (list all replies)

  • The only ''huh?'' moment I had was when Bo said that Maria would marry Al Roberts, but it would be much later. That doesn't make sense if Clint and Maria were young lovers, Asa broke them up, Clint left (I thought he was around 18), Maria learned she was pregnant and Al married her to protect her good name. I'm willing to buy some loose-playing with history because by casting the actors that they have (Nigel as Chuck, Sr. for example), the writers are saying that even if we are seeing Rex, the characters are seeing Bo. So, while Rex may be in his 20s, the ''Bo'' that the other characters are seeing could be any age. Does that make sense? (Probably not.) Wanda
  • Hi Wanda.... (which makes me wonder, why couldn't we have Wanda, Larry and Herb return for guest appearances this month!).... you could very well be right about Clint. about him being 18 when he was with Maria. Maybe I was just going by the 1981 storyline when he was supposed to be 16 in 1956 when Olympia 'died' .... also funny how Rex got SORAS'ed the other year when they threw him in as a red herring as one of the candidates to be Paige's 26-year old son.... when it was clear that he was supposed to be 18 (and therefore younger) than Natalie when he left Michigan in 2002 ..... I sure would love to see Dorian/Herb more than Dorian/Mel; Dorian and Herb were just sublime!... Jack66
  • Jack, you have a fabulous memory. I remember Asa keeping a nutty Olympia in the attic while telling everyone she was dead, but I don't remember Clint's age when she supposedly died. Just like I remember Clint and Maria were young lovers, but I'm just guessing Clint was 18 because he was left without looking back as opposed to an underage teen running away. Wanda
  • That's pretty much the only problem I have with the 1968 story - including characters who shouldn't be there. I think Jack is right that Clint and Maria were supposed to be 16 when they conceived Cord, Asa sent Maria away soon after without allowing Clint to find out Maria was pregnant. Clint left soon after that, being so upset with his father. I believe Olympia 'died' a year or so before this, and between losing his mother and the girl he loved, Clint didn't want to stay with Asa. Clint didn't see Asa and Bo again (for about 20 years) until they traced him to Llanview about 1978 or 1979. Originally Clint was about 10 years old than Bo, but their age difference has gotten closer as they got older and especially after casting JvD as Clint (he's actually about a year and a half younger than RSW). So by the time Clint was a young adult, he's already fathered Cord, Maria was gone from his life, his mother was 'dead', and he was no longer living at home. I get that tptb wanted to include as many present-day characters as they could, but if tptb are trying to be historical, then Clint shouldn't be there. eom
  • Clint found out about Cord in 1986, not 1981.
  • That's right - Asa sent Maria away. I had forgotten that. Wanda
  • I guess my memory is good on 1981 stories because that was the year I started watching while in school! To throw another fly into the Clint ointment, remember that in 1983 there was a mystery about Clint's past in Arizona when Echo, played by Kim Zimmer, came to town. The storyline was about Clint's past from 20 years ago (1963) when he had an affair with Echo's mother, Giselle, when in his early 20's. ... Maybe none of it is supposed to be accurate and maybe just a jumbled up fantasy of Bo & Rex. That's the only way to justify it without driving us crazy with all the inaccuracies and rewrites of history!! Jack66

I just finished watching and I have to agree that I don't hate it as much as I thought I would--the old west part.  I prefer the Viki storyline because it is so much fun to see the actors who have come before.

What I want over is the stooooooopid Mendorra storyline.  They can all go over the falls for all I care.  I know I'm in the minority, but I never liked Andrea Evans as Tina.  She just seems empty-headed; not even capable of ripping someone off.  Maybe once they all get back to Llanview, and she reunites with Viki, I will like it more, but right now I can't see it.

    Replies: (list all replies)

  • AE was my least favorite Tina too, even if she was the original. And I don't understand what fans of her mean when they say she was once smart and conniving. Yes, she was always conniving, but she did it in a bimbo way. The only one in that story worth watching is Sarah, and she's not enough to keep me from switiching over to ATWT when the Mendorra storyline pops up on my screen. Wanda

Ive been watching only 3 yrs so Im thinking that a lot of the memories meant more to others than to me, but I loved today's episode, both the Viki and the Bo storylines. (Mendorra cant end fast enough) Viki should do her hair like Nicky's, that style took 10 yrs off of her! How many are old enough to remember when TVs actually took a few minutes to warm up LOL! What a great detail to add besides the rabbit ears, and Rex saying well where's the remote. Great show!

    Replies: (list all replies)

  • I had totally forgotten that TVs needed to warm up, and I was watching one when OLTL first came on in '68. Rex's reaction to the out-of-date technology was hysterical. I remember our first color set and my first VCR - which I got so I could tape OLTL while I worked. Ah, memories... They show how old one really is. Wanda
  • I believe I was the last person in Hollywood CA to purchase a VCR, it was around 1983 or so, the VCR cost over 400 bucks but I have to say it ran for like 12 yrs or so nowadays its just the $39 Orion model from Walmart/ladyhey
  • I think we still have my original VCR - a GE top-loader, I believe. It was still working the last time I used it. Things just don't last like they used to. Now, how's that for dating myself... Wanda

You see that old t.v with the antennas? How funny.

I loved the old scenes with Vikki.

  • Truth be told , the television would have had an antenna on the roof, but no one could see that so I'm sure that's why it had rabbit ears. Loved Rex's expression when Bo said the TV had to warm up. Wanda
