Additional Comments:

First mention to Andrew's words - they were beautifully eloquent, and I'm glad he could be heard in the background while Langston et al. were yakking. Next, I thought Kyle's realization that he couldn't marry Nick was nicely underplayed - there was no unnecessary drama like someone objecting or Oliver getting hurt; not even a mention of Oliver passing the test of courage; just the irony that Nick saying ''One step at a time. I love you'' caused Kyle to panic. Suddenly, his reasons for marrying Nick didn't matter because he knew that he couldn't say ''I love you'' to Nick yet, and he could still say it to Oliver.

The one thing that detracted from the scene was Roxy forcibly kissing Mrs. Burns. I didn't find it funny, especially because she said essentially the same thing that deprogrammers say: ''You'll learn to like it.'' I imagined what would have happened if one of the protesters had grabbed Amelia and told her that she just hadn't been kissed by a man who knows how. It would have been played as harassment, and the director wouldn't dare imply that the victim wanted it after the fact. I'll never understand people who can't enjoy an event without insisting on everyone else being a part of it.

Other than that one moment, and the ridiculousness of the ceremony being covered by the International Channel, the wedding scenes really drew me in. Nick's face was heartbreaking. He's a good man, who doesn't deserve this. I hope that there's another storyline for him. Maybe Amelia can take him to Capricorn to cheer him up, and when Kyle and Oliver go there on a date, the writers will have Scott Evans and Nicholas Rodriguez sing. I'm also looking forward to Angel Mel giving Dorian her just deserts for this stunt.

I was delighted they brought Andrew back for this event -- he gave it just the right amount of gravitas and dignity. I was so happy Kyle finally owned up to his feelings for Fish -- equally glad they didn't feel the need to rush into marriage. They are essentially starting over and should take it slow. I'm not sorry for Nick at all. I think he does have feelings for Kyle but he's also been manipulative and dishonest. Roxy kissing Mrs. Burns was a cheapshot for the reasons you stated, but it also gave me a bit of a chuckle because these two old pros know how to play for broad laughs. I'm really not upset with Dorian. Her schemes always blow up in her face and this will too. She kind of dared herself to go through with this and she never backs down. I was glad Amelia made several efforts to give her an out. BTW: Perez Hilton spotlighted the big gay wedding on his site.

  • Thanks for the tip, but I cannot support Mr. Hilton's malicious agenda by visiting his site. To be fair, there may be something good about him that I haven't heard, but it's wrong of him to out people who aren't ready, and his comments about Ms. Préjean were inexcusable. About Nick now, I don't think he was ever manipulative or dishonest. When he proposed, he let Kyle know that he took marriage seriously. On the other hand, Kyle kept saying to Nick's face that they were really getting married, and that he gave his promise willingly... and it was only when Nick was out of earshot that Kyle would say, ''It's just symbolic, it's not legal.'' All Nick ever expected of Kyle was communication, but if Kyle wanted the marriage to be just for show, he never told Nick so. Kyle already knew that Nick's goal was to persuade Dorian to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples, long before Dorian announced that she would do it for the couples sharing her wedding, so why was Kyle surprised? If he and Nick chose to apply for and sign the license, it could be a year or more before it became legally binding, and at the time, Kyle thought he would rather be with Nick than with anyone else. I'm glad Kyle apologized to Nick, and Nick was magnanimous about it.

I loved that Kyle chose Fish, and then they decided not to get married. I'm glad they had the sense to slow down, unlike rush-to-the-altar-with-someone/anyone-you-barely-know Nick. Dorian continued to make a mockery of the whole issue of gay marriage, and somebody gay ought to out her and expose her scam. And Roxy kissing that protester was the silliest, although I admit I laughed at the protester's reaction just because she's a good comedic actress. Is Rox a lesbian? Has she ever been with a woman, because otherwise her don't knock it until you've tried it crack made no sense. Take out Kyle/Fish, and the whole thing was a ridiculous circus.

  • I agree with you about Kyle/Oliver, but does Dorian need to be outed any more than a gay person who pretends to be straight to get elected? Or a Russian American pretending to be Anglo-Saxon? Or an atheist pretending to be a Christian? Voters of every demographic should focus on her qualifications for the job, what she promises to do, and whether she has a history of fulfilling her promises. Not her private life. Her loveless marriage is a mockery of Andrew's sermon, but I don't see it as a mockery of the civil rights issue. Gay couples don't earn the right to marry by being in love; they deserve the right to marry because they're adult persons.
  • Pretending to be straight to get elected is an insult to all those people brave enough to seek public office without hiding who they are. Dorian could easily have courted the gay vote by promising to recognize gay marriages when elected. Instead, she decided to play gay as a cheap ploy to get votes dishonestly. When found out by the straight majority, her credibility would be shot and the credility of the gay rights movement would be hurt. That's why the gay community should out her and fight the good fight honestly. (Edward)
  • I think you present good reasons for your opinion, but I disagree. Dorian is wrong to manipulate the voters' emotions, but anyone who outs her for political gain will be just as wrong. I hope that the civil rights supporters of Llanview take the high road, as Nick, Kyle and Oliver have done, and leave Dorian's personal life out of their political wrangling. They absolutely shouldn't legitimize a politician's inappropriate emphasis on her sexual orientation, real or fake, by outing her.
