Topic: OK, so I was wrong about Snoop!

Additional Comments:  I loved his reworked opening theme and hope they keep it. And I really liked his performance at the party. It really looked like Adriana, Layla and everyone was having a wild and fun time. You could tell he's no stranger to Llanview and is a big fan of the show. As for the rest of the bachlorette party, Rex's little striptease was so embarassing. Fallen down drunk is hot sexy.

My problem is not with the theme or Snoop's music per se ... it's this whole LAME ASS thing soaps do where a longtime character has a never-before-metioned history and is great old friends with the celebrity!  Just let the musician/artist be a guest who says hello to a few actors.  Yeah right, Bo and Snoop Dogg go waaaay back in da day and Bo hooked Snoop up with his big break and WTF????  Nevermind that Bo is a cop and Snoop's first hit was about killing a cop but why in the hell would Bo, a middle-aged white man in small town America Llanview, be promoting gangsta rap 15 years ago anyways and THEN never even mention a word of it ever to anybody until today????  Gawd, can you tell it annoys me?!!!  Crappy and out-dated stupid writing!

  • Bo was a producer for a soap opera back in the early 90's. It was called Fraternity Row. That's what they were talking about when they mentioned they knew each other before Snoop got his big break. It wasn't made up at all. Also OLTL has always had musical talents come on the show from all different music backgrounds for the last 30 yrs. This is nothing new. They always came on knowing someone in Llanview & performed at a club. This is THE OLTL soap before Higley decided to change everything about Llanview...It's good to see the show has alot of new viewers since there are so many here that don't know the way OLTL has always been a campy soap at times. I for one love the humor....G
  • I watched years before Bo became a producer for Fraternity Row... The ''Snoop Dogg getting his big break'' part was made up, and a ridiculous suggestion that his career (and the negative baggage that goes with him) came from Bo's time running a daytime soap opera. That's what people are having a problem with. ~Soaker
  • So it was made up? Everything about soaps is make believe & farfetched. I watched Viki give birth to 1 baby, & we all know what happened when they decided to tell us that she had 2 girls at the same time with 2 different men. Talk about farfetched!! What about Victor being alive for the tenth time? What about Asian Blair turning into a white blonde southern chick when we were told that Addy was raped by an Asian orderly? I don't like Rap but why is it so unbelieveable that when Bo was a producer he might have given Snoop's name to someone in the music industry? It's not as farfetched as some of the past messes. The 2 scenes between Bo & Snoop doesn't even compare..G
  • I said this in a different response to you, G... I think you may be misunderstanding the sentiment. It is indeed the whole eyeroll-worthy attention paid to ''Snoop Dogg'' - that his stunt-cast presence was a distraction rather than an enhancement - that made it nauseating. The history re-creation was unaffecting, otherwise. It's by no means a slam on Ron Carlivati. For all we know, he could have absolutely cringed at incorporating Snoop Dogg into the storyline. It's his job to work him in, and I'm sure he did the best anyone could... ~Soaker
  • Soaker, Yes, It's stunt casting but ABCD has been doing this for years. I don't know anything about Snoop dog so maybe that's why it doesn't bother me. I don't know anything more than he's a rap singer & I don't really care..Would it be a big deal to you if it was Celine Dion thanking Bo for her big break? For me it's the same for both. I guess we'll have to just agree to disagree...G

I disagree with the heat of a thousand suns! I SO do not want this version of the opening theme to stick. Now I wouldn't be a fan of anything gangster sounding, so I'm not suggesting it should have gone full-on Snoop. But what this theme IS, is trite and vacant sounding, as if there were no effort or energy put into it. It's just a typical, generic music track with some marginal lyrics spoken over... by Snoop Dog.

And it being Snoop Dog is indeed the worst part: OLTL's identity should never be overshadowed - especially not in perpetuity - by any celebrity, let alone a celebrity with quite a bit of negative baggage... That would certainly be the case if this theme remained.

I thought the Snoop Dog thing on Friday was lame, didn't see the bit on Thursday. I guess I'm an old fuddy duddy. I do like classical and country western, quite a combination, huh? Really I like lots of diff. kinds of music, but I thought this was stupid. Bet they paid a lot of money for him.

LOL, I still don't think I was wrong! Hated the opening, but can't say much for the rest, since I FF'd over it. I doubt I missed anything, though. JMO.
