Topic: Isn't Todd *raping* Marty again by playing with her memories?

Additional Comments: Does Todd actually think that Marty will forgive him for misleading her memories of the rape? Isn't Todd in fact "raping" Marty again?! That is cruel.

This SL shows just how delusional and misguided Todd is .... he really needs psychological help .... and I find his rantings and lies painful to watch and listen too ....

The "dream sequence" is really interesting ... Marty seems to be alternating between complete knowledge and complete 'amnesia' ... like she is trying to block out the truth because it is too painful to face!

But I am impatient with the fact that John did not reveal the truth to her about Ramsay and Todd.

  • In Marty's dream(her in bed talking to John) she doesn't know the truth, she does have amnesia. In John's dream(he sees her in his bed) she remembers everything because he would dream of her knowing her past....G
  • Oh & John can't reveal the truth because he's in Marty's dream & she doesn't know the truth....G
  • Marty has already said that it isn't simply about 'forgetting' her past, that this is more about brain damage. That part of the brain is gone, which on soaps doesn't mean much. eom

    Rin Tim Tim,
I agree. This story line is cruel and based on the previews I read and the head writer's attitude, it is about to get much worse.
Spoiler: Don't scroll down if you don't want to know.

*Apparently the fact that Marty doesn't remember anything about Todd's involvement of her rape, even though she vividly remembers the rape makes it okay to explore a relationship that may include romantic feelings, according to this writer. He feels that it would be wrong if she remembered, but being left in the dark for now may make it okay. OKAY? I can't believe that they are going to go there! No, I take it back, I do believe it! To me it isn't all that far from: "Well, she didn't struggle, she must have liked it." The fact is that Marty does remember the rape and it still scares her to death. Why in this day and age with all the education about violence towards women do you get a storyline like this? I wonder how this would hold up in court? Haven't there been cases of doctor's and dentists doing this to their female patients without their knowledge. Did the judge or jury deem this okay because the women had no memory of what happened to them? This is just plain sick!

  • I think what RC is saying is that BECAUSE Marty doesn't remember that Todd was the one who raped her, he's going to play this story for all it's worth. He said that if she came back knowing who she is, he wouldn't be writing this. Personally, I'm ready for these bed scenes to be over. I want her to get her memory back & interact with others...G
  • If Todd does have sex with Marty while she still doesn't remember him or the rape, then it would be rape all over again and the writers are idiots to think its acceptable.
  • I wouldn't exactly call it rape if Todd has sex w/Marty now, w/amnesia. She isn't incapable of giving consent & it is possible (albeit icky & offensive) for her to have consentual sex w/anyone, not carrying any of the baggage of the past. eom
  • I wonder though if in real life Todd would be on shaky ground legally? Since he has let no one else be involved except a nurse he pays under the table, she is under his care. She cannot walk by herself at this point and her mind has been affected by her injuries. Would the court consider her fully an adult of sound mind? What happens in the case of adults with mental disabilities who are sexually taken advantage of and would the fact that Todd was a convicted rapist who was holding the woman who was his victim before have some mitigating circumstances? At any rate to me Todd's behavior is still one of a predator. He is lying to Marty about her circumstances. He once again has power over her and is isolating her from family, friends, and professionals who could help her in her recovery. It is obviously to his advantage that she doesn't remember, so he is denying her that aspect of her care. He has her at a psychological disadvantage and he is exploiting that. If nothing else, this storyline is reinforcing my belief that when it comes to rapists, rehabilitation is dubious. Most of the time It is best just to lock them up and throw away the key. With Todd I would include the the mold as well. Proudmary
  • Marty isn't incompetent (sp)! She is functional & she has no problems recalling recent memories. It is just the memories of the past that are gone, probably forever if what she was saying is true & it is about physical brain damage, not about a mental block. But it IS a soap & TPTB could change their minds tomorrow about what she will ever be able to remember. That it isn't illegal doesn't make what Todd is doing right. But, IMO, he should have been locked up for beating Cole & throwing Starr down the stairs--so he wouldn't have the opportunity to keep Marty from everyone. eom

I think Todd's version of the truth is already coming back to haunt him.  Marty is starting to remember and he couldn't talk her into believing that her dream was just that.  And she dreamt that Todd was in the room.  Now, for story purposes she's misconstrued the meaning.  But she's going to remember and nothing Todd does will stop it.  And it will be fun to watch when she does.

Todd definitely thinks he will get rid of his guilt.  He never thinks logically.  What does he expect to happen?  Will he "keep" Marty with him indefinitely?  Once, she recovers, she will want to leave.  Also, if she gets her memory back, she will be furious with Todd.  Not only for lying to her about his role in the rape, but by keeping her away from loved ones.  Plus, Starr and Blair will be even more against him.  I know in his own warped way, he thinks he is doing something good.

I have stopped listening to the dialoug in these scenes. But when it first started I watched to see where the heck it could be going, and I surmised that Todd is trying to make himself 'clean' and really thinks if Marty cant remember, he never did it.It seems to fit his warped and sick logic.

Certainly, we the audience see this, but Todd clearly doesn't. Typically, he justifiies his selfish actions (hiding Marty from John and Cole), by playing the role of protector. But the truth will out. And Marty (I hope) will let him know exactly what he has done to her -- again. And he'll have to deal with it somehow.

  • That's my take on it too. I also think Todd originally took Marty to hurt John and Cole, but it's now evolved and all those latent feelings of caring and even love that he has had for Marty for decades are coming to the surface. He now sees himself as someone who can give her a new and untroubled life. But it's all going to blow up in his face and I can't wait to watch SH as angry Marty. Wanda Wolek

I think they'll be a double whammy when she and Cole re-unite. I would NEVER forgive anyone who kept me from my son!
