How Come John gets to order the whole town and police department around all the time...YES YES YES - ''Chief of Detectives'' IS a high-rank, but its NOT chief of police, commisioner, mayor, etc....but he arbitrarily makes decisions and orders everybody around all the time and how come everybody lets him????
Also, he blackmails people (like that hotel guy) and goes FAR OUTSIDE his legal jurisditcion all the time.
And also, he comes and goes as he pleases...Remember that one time when he took a leave of absence and just quit when he was obsessing about Dr Saybrooke being all captive up in Todd's house???
But, he broke all those laws and then when he got tired of bartending they begged him back and gave him a PROMOTION to boot!!!

If you think John McBain is allowed to run rampant and do what he wants, you should be watching All My Children. What the writers have done to the character of Chief of Police Jesse Hubbard is downright criminal. Jesse used to be one of the most beloved charcters on AMC, and viewers were thrilled to have him come back. But the writers have completely ruined him, and his antics as chief of police make John McBain look like a saint.
My vote is with Chris. I like Michael Easton and the character of John McBain. Unpopular, I know, but I just like the guy.

Message: I totally forgot about John's promotion. (Did he used to be a lieutenant?) My take on Johnny Boy is that he is the Jack Bauer of OLTL. Think about it. They both have taken leaves of absence from their jobs and magically come back whenever they want, they're not afraid to break rules to get results, they take on more authority than their job allows them, they're always saving the world (by themselves), they're attracted to skinny damsels in distress (Marty, Audrey), They dress in black, they overstep their bounds all the time (and get away with it), etc. maybe someday John and Jack could team up in a OLTL/24 crossover, they could call it One Day to Live, or maybe 24 Hours to Live.
