Well, I took Em for her checkup this morning, and she indeed has a midl case of Trich. The doctor thinks that I'm handling it very well with her though, and doesn't think she needs meds or the therapist yet. She said to wait until she's been in school a month and then bring her back for re-evaluation. If she's worse, we're going to get connected with a support group and a counselor. If she's the same or doing better, we're going to keep doing my methods.
I've read a lot on this in the past few weeks, and I've gotten lots of great ideas! The one that really helps Em is koosh balls! I let her sleep with a giant one, and instead of pulling her eyebrows/lashes, she pulls the koosh ball. So I'm going to order her a bunch of mini ones from oriental trading that she can stash in her desk or pockets for school. That way, if she's taking a test and she feels stressed, she can pull the koosh instead of pick at herself. The doctor thinks this is a great idea, and so far I have to say it's working great!!
I know this isn't my fault, and it was a HUGE boost to hear a medical professional tell me I'm doing a great job...but I still haven't reached the acceptance stage yet, so I'm praying and trying really hard to get there. After all, this is about Emily, not me, so I need to be strong for her!
Thanks to all for kind comments and support...and DeeDee, Emily LOVED getting a letter in the mail! :)
