I've been thinking about your party..is it today, or did you have it already?  Emily's is this afternoon at 1:00.  I am the homeroom mom, and my friend Deanna is my sidekick.  She and I did EVERYTHING for the party, because not ONE parent called or e-mailed me back.  I also sent home a note asking for help, and nobody called.  I feel like a party stalker, so I just gave up.  I baked Christmas cookies, bought chips, treat bags and planned a game.  Deanna bought the juice and supplies to do a craft.  As much as I love to help, I think it's totally unfair that I end up doing almost everything!  I've never had to work with such a crappy bunch of parents in my entire life.  It's not fair to the kids, they work SO hard, and deserve a fun treat.  I also didn't tell the teacher about the lack of parent cooperation because she works hard all year too, it's not her responsibility!!  I am thankful that this is my last party of the year...Deanna is in charge of Valentine's day!

Next year, 4th grade plans their own parties with no parent involvement..so I guess this is my "retirement" party until Allison is in school...HA!

Hi Sandigal, thanks for asking!  We actually just walked in the door from it.  It went great.  I have 2 other Moms that help though, in fact one does most of it by herself she's so creative, lol.  We make a list that we send home a week before the party assigning parents certain items asking them to call if they can't.  Rarely are we missing things.  This party we had salami and cheese and nachos (one of the boy's in my Little One's class has a Mom that is a teacher in the school so she brought a big crock of nacho dip and bags of chips to both the Halloween and the Christmas party, probably will the Valentine one too) and fruit and cookies and popcorn and juice.  We played holiday bingo and made foam "memory boards" since this is their last year at this school - next year Middle School (I suggested we let them wear pajamas to school since they won't get to once Elementary is over, they all loved it - I even wore a robe over my clothes, lol)!  One of the Moms went in last week and took pictures of each kid and developed them and brought them in today.  The kids glued their picture onto a piece of foam and decorated the rest the way they wanted (I printed out several variations of their school name and mascot and we had little foam decorations and ribbon and a hole puncher and glitter pens - they turned out really cute).  Then we passed out candy and the teacher gave each of them a little something and there were candy canes and marshmallow Christmas peeps.  A lot of parents showed up for this party, it was crowded, lol.  All in all a good start to Winter Break.  I am surprised the teachers at your school don't have the parents involved, I've never heard of that - it seems it would be a lot of work for just the teacher, and more fun with the parents.

  • aR: I'm a little dizzy ... her last year at this school?? Wasn't she just in kindergarten??? I mean, I know I always say it, but this time I actually REALLY mean it!!! She just started kindergarten. She doesn't think so much of it. She doesn't want to leave home. That was like last week!!! zowie. xo, aR
  • P)I know aR, and to think I've been posting here her entire life!!! She still gets a little nervous with some separation (doesn't want to stay overnight anywhere without me) but boy has she spread her wings this year, I'm so proud of her. She is involved in so much and so aware of the world around her, mentors struggling classmates, it's (she's) amazing. I had to put in her Choice application for Middle School a couple of weeks ago. She nearly my height now too, (sigh).

  • Actually, the parents, up until this year, have been AMAZING!!! From K-2, I hardly got to do anything, and the parties were amazing! But this year, I have a different group...only 1 or 2 were ever in Em's class before, the rest are new to me. And they basically don't like to do stuff. I guess it was bound to happen eventually!! It actually went very well, and another mom baked cupcakes, so we had plenty. They loved my game, I read the Grinch out loud, and every time I said WHO they had to pass a present. When the story was over whoever was holding it got to keep it. FUN! I'm glad your party went so well, and I'm amazed at how much everyone did for it! That's awesome!!! Sandigal
