It's nice to feel someone else shares my feelings. I think Kim Zimmer could be replaced and I for one would not be unhappy if she left the show. Thanks for your comments.

There is no way Nicole Forrester could even compare with the wonderful actress that Kim Zimmer is.I love the way Kim acts so calm and cool in certain things and then lets them have it.Reva is the main reason I watch GL and if Reva ever left, the show would take a gigantic downfall.Kim is a great actress and very admirable.Cassie is just flat out irritating.
Subject: edsonfan): See what I mean, Cloey? The problem with REVA/Zimmer is that she is the bane of Guiding Light...a very polarizing character/actress that divides the viewing audience in half. Precisely what you don't want if you want a soap opera to last long-term. Note, too, that a good many REVA fans stop watching the show whenever she's not around. It's Pam Long's fault, essentially. Had she and P&G any brains, they should've spun REVA out of Springfield and onto her own REVA Show. That way, her fans could lap up her histrionics while those who appreciate Guiding Light as an ensemble show could have had their show, too.

Subject: I'm curious, did the passionate KZ fans watch while she was off the show? The show had good ratings then, but since she returned the ratings have steadily declined.Granted, all soaps are declining, but none with 1.5 ratings.Sometimes I don't like KZ at first but when she gets into the scene, she is a good actress, but sometimes she is too much work to watch.

Subject: I've never, ever been a Reva fan. From the moment the character came on the show, it dominated. Prior to that, I don't recall one character on GL dominating the show for decades like Reva's has. But not liking the character did NOT cause me to stop watching the show! Your post implies that viewers that hated Reva stopped watching the show and only Reva lovers watch now. Not true.

Subject: edsonfan): Actually, Bristol it IS true. I'm proof of it. And I'm hardly the only one...proof comes in the significant INCREASE in ratings Guiding Light saw when Zimmer left in 1990. And by the commentary that REVA fans make here, plenty of them ditched the show in 1990 when Zimmer left. And if THAT'S true, it means that Guiding Light actually saw an even bigger boost in viewership when Zimmer left in 1990 as not only did the show increase its total number in viewership, but it ALSO made up for the loss of viewers who quit watching the show when the so-called Star of Guiding Light left.

Subject: Spaulding Butler} Very well-stated, edsonfan. Thirteen years on the front-burner have exhausted legitimate storyline possibilities for Reva. That, in my opinion, is why most storylines disintegrate into inane, poorly-conceived, campy drivel – the ‘well’ of ideas dried up a long time ago but TPTB seem intent upon supplying Reva with an interminable amount of airtime. They also seem unable (or unwilling) to integrate her into an ensemble cast (instead of making her the ‘star’ of GL), which has effectively decimated the once diverse population of Springfield. I, too, see a correlation between Reva’s continuous presence and the decline of GL. When she resurfaced in 1995, the show still had a cast of nearly 30-35 characters, most with substantial roles in front-burner storylines. Now, thirteen years later, the ‘ensemble cast’ is limited mostly to Reva and her schmoozing shills (Jeffrey, Josh, Cassie, etc.).

Subject: Have you been watching the show? Reva has only been on recently. She publicly criticized the producers for not giving her enough air time. She has not been front burner for 13 years. She has had front burner storylines, but definitely hasn't been there all the time.

Subject: Spaulding Butler} I can’t think of any significant amount of time (in other words, more than a few weeks) when Reva wasn’t ‘front and center’ over the past thirteen years. If anything, Kim Zimmer has occupied too much airtime, to the detriment of other performers on the show. Her character resurfaced as a ghost in spring 1995, and then became Amish Reva during the summer of that year when Alan discovered her in Goshen. By autumn, Josh had discovered that she was still alive. During 1996, Reva broke up with Alan, reunited briefly with Josh, married Buzz, crusaded to save Fifth Street, and then left Buzz. The Reva/Annie Dutton rivalry occupied the bulk of GL’s airtime during late 1996, all of 1997, and into early 1998. Annie’s departure orchestrated the infamous cloning of Reva storyline during the summer of 1998, which was followed by Annie’s return, disguised as Teri DeMarco, in early fall. (Remember her infamous phrase, ‘Sit down Josh’?) Then there was the awful mind control storyline, succeeded by the abysmal ‘Reva as Princess Catherine’ story that nearly sunk GL in 1999. All of the preceding chaos was followed by additional inane drivel (being stalked by Alex; time-traveling; fortune-telling; discovering Jonathan; being diagnosed with cancer and then miraculously recovering on her death bed; numerous relationships when she split up with Josh, etc.). This list could continue on ad nauseum, but I think I’ve made my point.

Subject: edsonfan): And here's some more REVA-centered crap: Noah; Sean the Island Man; propping up dead bodies in restaurants; Sarah's death; H.B.'s death (which essentially became a REVA-centered two-month crying jag); saving Holly and the kids she kidnapped; being a key witness in the Brent/Marion Crane/Lucy storyline; blind REVA; pull-the-plug-on Richard story; REVA, the mob and her call in television show; the kid in the crate and REVA. How could any character/actress have more air time?

Subject: Spaulding Butler} Edsonfan, how could I forget Dr. Noah Chase, Sean the Island Man, and Catalina in the Crate? Three characters introduced to the show for the sole purpose of propping up Reva. And once they had served their sole purpose, they were written off Guiding Light. I had also forgotten about the Nursery Rhyme Stalker storyline, and how TPTB once again tried to portray Reva as a superhero saving Holly. What ridiculous tripe! I did feel some satisfaction, however, when Holly whacked Reva with that sharp poker (right before Teri/Annie left the cabin) – it’s a shame that Reva regained consciousness!

Subject: Spaulding Butler} Sit Down Josh – that’s such an interesting screen name! I, too, remember how Teri/Annie used to chant that repeatedly to Joshua. Considering how wretched GL has become, I almost feel nostalgic for the days of Rauch/Brown & Esensten. (I can’t believe I’m actually saying that!)

Subject: Spaulding Butler} Matt & Vanessa Fan, I do despise the character Reva, but that was not always the case. If Reva could just be integrated into the ensemble cast (instead of always having to be the ‘star’), I think I could possibly tolerate her again. I keep watching with the increasingly fading hope that GL will turn around and become a stellar ensemble production again. That seems highly unlikely at this point. By the way, I noticed that you are a fan of Matt and Vanessa (according to your screen name). Reva’s interminable presence is one reason, in my opinion, that those two viable characters have been relegated to the back-burner in recent years. It’s a shame, really.
