Boy Meets World vet hired as Y&R's single-named Tucker Posted Wednesday, October 21, 2009 1:50:55 AM by Dan J Kroll

The casting department at The Young and the Restless has found Genoa City's newest billionaire. Veteran actor William Russ, known to many for his work on the 1990s sitcom, Boy Meets World, has been cast as "Tucker." The initial casting call for the role prompted speculation that the CBS soap was trying to recast Victor Newman.

William Russ has landed the much-talked-about role of "Tucker" on The Young and the Restless. Though the show would eventually deny it, the casting call for the role has many wondering if Tucker was really a covert attempt to recast the role of Victor Newman.

Though his career spans more than 30 years, Russ may forever be best-known for his work on the former family-friendly sitcom, Boy Meets World. Russ played Alan Matthews, the main character's father, from 1993 through 2000.

The Ron Raines thing was always a rumor.   It said it was a rumor on the original item.  And people should know that site is notorious for ungrounded speculation.   If people dropped that word off when repeated, well, that's how it goes.

What a shame. Ron Raines would have added a great deal of class to that show. I hope he turns up in another project soon -- preferably one that allows him to use his excellent vocal talents!

I'm sorry he won't be on Y&R.   Maybe he'll get to do more Broadway now.  I hope so.  He seems like a real New Yorker, and a move to California would probably me a major one for him and his family.

I was really hoping to see Ron Raines on Y&R. He would have been a good fit to the show and a great replacement as a new character since Eric B.  is leaving the show.

Prior to Boy Meets World, WR was known for his VERY memorable role on Miami Vice.

  • Dax) And even better remembered for Wiseguy.
  • Right. His Wiseguy character (Roger Loccocco was it?) was excellent. Hard to picture him in a soap.
  • Yep, Rosebud, Russ was Evan Freed on Miami Vice, one of the better episodes.
  • Evan is my favorite Vice episode. (Edward)
  • Spaulding Butler} He also appeared on several episodes of the wonderful show 'Boston Legal.'

All this means to me is I still won't be tuning into Y&R anytime soon.

Where did the Ron Raines rumor come from?

  • Pittman, when I read it, it didn't state anywhere that it was a rumor. It said he had been signed by Y&R. When I read that, I posted it on here. I was SO excited! Now my thrill with Y&R is wearing off some; I was REALLY looking forward to seeing him on there. As it is, Patti (and now her Dr) are the only reasons I'm still watching, unless something changes (which it could). I think it is really SORRY of TPTB to put MTS on recurring. fee
  • Oh, ok. I even thought I saw somewhere that Ron Raines was joining Y&R...just don't remember where. (Pittman)
  • Pittman, you did probably see it in several places (online)... but turns out it was just 'made up'. Y&R never even contacted Raines, never mind that he was 'up for the part'. It was just the rumor mill buzzing, etc...
