Topic: Viewers Give GL A GREAT Sendoff - Final Ratings

Additional Comments:

Final live plus same day ratings are in and GL's final week brought back many viewers.  The final GL episode was the 3rd most watched soap on 9/18, with almost 3 million viewers.  GL had been averaging just over 2 million viewers the last several weeks, so hundreds of thousands of viewers came back on its final day to say goodbye to GL.

GL beat AMC, OLTL and ATWT in its final week in total viewers.  It's heartening to know that the viewers cared and did not let GL go out with a whimper.  Also, GL had been dead last in almost every rating category recently, but in its final week, GL was not last in ANY category.

Thank you, viewers for letting GL go out on a high note in its final week!

Too bad the viewers that stopped in for the last couple of days weren't regular viewers all the time, because with numbers like those, GL wouldn't have been canceled.
I think this proves the point that the viewers (or chunks of viewers) are still out there, but they just aren't watching. Daytime soaps really do need to re-adjust what they are all doing, or they'll all be dinosaurs, and we'll have game shows and talk shows all day.

  • In which case I'll frickin' throw my TV away! Wouldn't need it anymore! fee
  • (Sam) It's too bad the show got so bad over the past several years because many of us would never have left.

That's amazing news! The viewers, new and old came around in a way to salute Guiding Light. Great news. I hope that also shows CBS that Guiding Light was definitely a soap people cared about.

Personally, I'm really looking forward to seeing the abysmal ratings for Let's Make a Deal by about week 3.

  • Make sure not to compare the total HH or total viewer numbers... If LMAD is able to draw more viewers in the desired demo, then it will be considered a success. A few weeks ago GL was pulling in just slightly more than 400,000 in the 18-49F demo. As for anything more, the network looks at LMAD as one, big, hour-long commercial, since this game show is built around showcasing the prizes (products) that are given away. The audience might as well be watching a ''funny'' infomercial. Same with TPIR.

Too bad it wasn't able to kick Y&R's butt.  That would have made me really happy.

For the life of me, I'll never understand how more people like that show than GL.

  • I hear ya. GL was so much better than Y and R, in my opinion. And, a far better show than that joke-of-a soap, Bold & Beautiful.
