To set this up, a lovestruck Alan was hiding Annie in the Spaulding attic, after everyone realized she had stolen the real Teri DiMarco's identity. Alexandra finally realized what was going on -- and lost her sh!t big time when she caught them together!!!
I remember watching this when it aired and cheering Alex on. This was right before Marj Dusay left to go to "All My Children." It would be nearly four years before we got her back as Alexandra.
The only thing that would have made this scene better is if Cynthia Watros was the one playing Annie. But Signy Coleman had a tough act to follow and still did a good job.

Signy Coleman is a great actress. If they'd found a different character for her to play, I think she could've been a long-term cast member, and very interesting. What's with Alan and his taste for broken/desperate women?

In my opinion, the Alexandra/Annie confrontation was one of the last great GL scenes of the year 1999. (Very shortly thereafter, the abominable Car-toon Car-men Santos was introduced, powerhouse Alex was written out, Buzz’s Fifth Street diner -- and blue-collar background -- were destroyed, and the abysmal ‘Reva as Princess Catherine/San Cristocrap’ nonsense infiltrated the show.)
Witnessing the Alex/Annie interaction almost made the entirely ludicrous “Annie-has-plastic-surgery-to-resemble-Teri-DeMarco” storyline bearable.
Marj Dusay absolutely owned these scenes. I also cheered Alex on when she labeled Annie a “rat” and said she couldn’t wait to reduce her to “fine dust.” Alex’s lines were sharply written, which made it even more difficult to say goodbye to the character when Dusay exited GL for AMC. (I’m still upset that then-executive producer Paul Rauch didn’t issue MD a contract so that she could remain in the role of Alex, and instead brought on that laughably one-note Saundra Santiago as Car-toon Car-men.)
And yes, although Signy Coleman was no Cynthia Watros, I still think she did an adequate job portraying Annie.
