Additional Comments: Did you ever run into someone that you did not recognize but they totally seemed to know you very well? How did you react and did they know that you didn't recognize them?

One time I went to a pizza place with my cousin Tammy. She had worked there as a teenager but this was at least 10 years later. We were sitting there eating and this woman came in and when she saw Tammy, she ran over to our table, hugged her really hard, sat down and started a 'do you remember' conversation with Tammy. I swear they must have talked for at least 15 minutes or longer and then the other woman got up to leave and when she walked away, Tammy leaned in to me and said ''I have no idea who that was''. ROTFL!!!!!! That was one of the funniest things I'd ever seen. The woman was so happy to see Tammy and Tammy was too embarrassed to tell her she didn't know who she was.

At my uncle's funeral a few years back I was talking with some cousins when I looked up and saw a woman headed my direction with a big smile and open arms. I knew she was coming to me but I had no idea who she was and didn't know what I was going to say to her when she got to me. She threw herself on me, hugging me like we were old friends and I tried to play along but then she grinned and said ''you have no idea who I am do you?'' and I had to admit that I didn't. She was the ex-wife of one of my cousins, we had never been close or anything so I really don't know how she remembered me but we had a good laugh about it.

How do you react in a situation like that?

People are forever stopping me and talking...  I keep wondering how I know them and from where???  The guy who eats here on weekends, says it's cause a 'jabber mouth' can spot another one and I'm the one!

I did have one gal many years ago, go on and on and on and on... about how much she just loves my kids.  What good kids they are, cute... on and on (did I say, on and on??).. and then she pointed towards the kids on the swings ...  they weren't my kids!  Mine were in the mud puddle making 'pan-a-cakes' to throw at the other kids...

When we first moved here in 1980 we'd get phone calls for me...callers would ask for me by name but they wanted someone else by my name...first and last name. Very strange.

When school started I was joining the PTO and one of the moms asked me if I used to live in a certain neighborhood. No, I did not. She said she was sure I had lived up the street from her. Wrong. The phone calls kept coming.

One afternoon I was walking accross a parking lot and I hear this guy call my name...I didn't recognize the voice so I kept on walking. He kept on calling my name. When he caught up with me and saw me up close he kept asking if I was still working at "Wherever" and asked about the family. I told him I was not who he thought was and told him about the weird things that had been happening. He apologized and I went on my way.

There was still a few calls after that and I'd meet people and they'd ask if I used to live "Wherever". I'd assure them I did not. Finally it stopped. Then one day, many years later, it happened in Wal*Mart. I was dumbfounded.

It really spooked my out that so many people thought I was someone else and that other person even had my name.

  • You know the old saying that everyone has a twin! That would give me a weird feeling if it kept happening to me like it did to you ..... SuzyB

That has not ever happened to me but it happens to my mom all the time.  She is a waitress and people remember her forever!  They hug her and ask about her family.  She makes quite the inpression I guess.

I will say though that at my Dads wake, I did not know half the people there and they did know me.  I knew they were ''family'' but I could not tell you who belonged to who.

  • impression! LOL
  • You know what's funny is that sometimes people recognize people they do business with but only in the business setting. My husband is a barber and wears a smock at work. If he runs into customers outside of the shop, they oftentimes do a double take because he's out of his smock and doesn't look 'the same'. Happens all the time! .... SuzyB
