After work tonight, I stopped off at Victoria's Secret. While I was checking out, I had the following conversation with the salesgirl:
SG: ''Did you hear about the gas strike?''
Ingy: ''No.''
SG: ''Nobody's buying gas on Friday, May 2nd. So don't buy gas on Friday. We're sending a message to the oil companies!''
Ingy: ''Okay.''
SG: ''So if you need gas, buy it on Thursday.'' (That'll show 'em.)
Ingy: Chuckles.
SG: ''I ran out of gas today.''
Ingy: ''How'd that happen?''
SG: ''I was trying not to buy it.'' (Whaaaa??? It's not Friday yet!)
Ingy: ''So what'd you do?''
SG: ''Well, I ran out right in front of a gas station.''
Ingy: ''It's a sign.''
SG: ''Yeah -- don't buy gas on Friday!''
WTH?

Silly Girl! LOL!
The gas companies don't care about any strike. They are laughing all the way to the bank. We will always need gas.
The only thing we really have done is drive less. We drive 30-45 minutes to work, so we carpool when we can. In my area there is no public transporation.
Maybe it is time to go back to the horse & buggy. eek!

I really showed the gas companies. A year ago this week, I started carpooling 3 days a week. And theeeen, about 2 months ago, I traded in my gas guzzling truck for a fuel efficient used Pontiac G6. For my portion of the gas cost, we just about cost the expense in half.
Oddly enough, besides saving money on gas, if you factor in the trade in value of the truck, we wind up saving at least $8,000 than if we waited until the truck were no longer driveable. Go figure that one. I couldn't believe it and I ran the numbers several times and we actually save more money in the long run by buying the G6 now. We bought the G6 used.

Wow. How young was she? She can't be THAT new to the interweb! That stupid "protest gas prices" e-mail has been going around since gas was just approaching $2 a gallon!! (sighing in recollection)

Actually gas sales are down, the amount we buy. People are using their smaller cars, walking, planning trips. (And here I am letting my son learn to drive now!))
We need to take more public transportation. We need to car pool more. But not getting gas on Friday will not do the trick!!

Thats funny!! Poor thing...she doesn't realize that the gas companies 'know' we are gonna need it sooner or later. I've been told though, not to buy it EVER from the big gas companies like Exxon or Shell. If you boycott the bigger guys, maybe they'll see it as a sign, IDK.
Its a catch 22. I'd love to comply with the 'don't buy' rule on Friday, but 'they' know we'll need it sooner or later.

A bit over zealous! LOL
I knew nothing about this gas strike-I guess I BETTER GET GAS ON THURSDAY!
Here's the problem with the whole "gas strike" concept...they don't care! They're going to still get paid the next day...and besides there are always those who are oblivious to the gas strike still filling up on gas strike day.
If there is a strike I will participate of course, LOL
