Topic: Anyone Watch Design Star Last Night?

Additional Comments:

I flipped on HGTV while I was ironing last night and caught an episode of Design Star.  They were doing individual projects rather than a group project.  There was a skinny, blonde-haired boy who was crowing about how he was going to win the entire competition, he IS the new Design Star ''period, end of sentence'' and on and on.  Very obnoxious.  He complimented one of the other designers on her room, telling her how he admired her work, she rocked, etc.  Then behind her back he made faces and criticized her mercilessly.

After everyone finished their rooms, he began having second thoughts about his design.  Suddenly, the King of All Designers was literally crying on the shoulder of one of the other designers and blubbering about how he would be the one sent home.  Cut to the judging -- the judges HATED his design and were very firm in their criticism even though he was standing in front of them sobbing and sniveling.  When the announcement was made that he would be the one leaving the show, guess who he turned to for a hug and sympathy?  Yup, the woman whose project he trashed and whom he'd been making fun of the entire time!

The show ended with him in the elevator leaving the building, sobbing that he wanted his mother!  OMG.  How the mighty fall.

Seems the designs have taken a backseat to the drama.  I didn't see anything that impressed me design-wise.  What do you think?

Ooo, ooo, ooo, they sent Michael home last night? OnDemand, here I come! What an obnoxious twit he is. During Episode 1, he ran out of the audition room and Vern went and got him back to give him a second chance. I couldn't believe he made it through--probably for the drama queen factor. Boy needs some serious meds. Tracee needs a big slap for her back-stabbing ways. My money is on Matt.

  • I don't know their names, so I'm not sure who Matt is. Really, no one stood out for me. ~i&b

I have watched each of the shows for this season.

Michael, the one who was sent home last night, almost did not even get to stay in the first place.  Vern sort of took pitty on him the first night because he could not stand up and describe his design style.  They called him back and gave him a second chance because they thought he could do it.

I actually liked the room he did last night but having never been to Spain, I have no idea what he thought he was doing.

Actually only one of the group did a room that the judges thought looked like the country they were doing.  The one guy doing Thialand with the black and red.

And as for Tracee, she has had trouble on all the previous shows.  The judges do not like her designs and the other designers do not like her either.

But I am enjoying the shows.

  • I really didn't like the designs last night. None of them, besides the one you mentioned and the one with the gondola, looked like the country it represented. And the gondola room just looked cartoonish, as one of the judges said. All during the episode, I kept thinking what David Bromstad might have done. I saw the episode last year when they designed a room using stuff purchased at a pet store and David's room looked just fabulous. You'd never know where the stuff came from, he completely transformed the materials. So much more creative than this bunch. ~i&b

  • I think he had a panic attack when he realized it was possible the judges wouldn't like his design. It was so WEIRD, though, to see him turn into such a crybaby after all his snarky, boastful behavior. He showed his true colors. Now he'll have to live all that down somehow. ~i&b
  • And good luck w/that!! ; ) TDQ
