We have a bunch of miniatures in our office today. We set up the kids with badges so they could punch a time clock. At the end of the day they are going to be presented with $50 "paychecks" that they can use to buy (overpriced) company merchandise like key chains and t-shirts. LOL.
I had one of my co-workers sons do some filing for me. He felt very important. It was adorable.
Two boys came in my office and I let them watch me calculate and cut a disability check for an employee. After I cut the check, I created a FedEx mailing label and we went into the basement of the building where the FedEx drop box is. They put it in the drop box. Then when we were done with that, I took them on a little tour so they could see this quick series of 5 double doors that open up automatically when you walk through them. It always reminds me of a scene from a movie. It's stupid, I know, but I think it is so and I pretend that I am a famous movie star. So, I subjected them to having to walk through these double doors and having them open up for us in rapid succession and pretend that we were movie stars. ROTFLMAO.
I told them that it is important to incorporate elements of fun into work and everything else that they do. Then we walked around the outside of the building to get back to the front entrance. I told them to enjoy feeling the warm sun on their face.
I told the older of the two boys that when I need something from his mom, I always go by her and give her my biggest smile and how I call that my "I'm cute face." So, we insisted that I walk over to his mom and smile. She took one look at me and said "you're smiling." Then she dropped her voice low and asked "what do you need." Her son that that was hilarious.
From about that point on, the son noticed that I usually have a big smile on my face. Of course, that was simultaneously cracking him up and making him shy. LOL.
On the corner of the desk in my office, I have a little zen garden that my employees gave me for Christmas one year. It is this tiny little sand garden with polished stones. Typically, if someone needs to talk to me but I am finishing something up, they'll rake the zen garden or move the little stones around. So, all of the kids have been coming by today to see my zen garden.
So...do you have any miniatures at your office today?

aww do they still do that. I got upset when some moms kept their kids at home and would say *well I am a stay at home mom, so they can see what I do!* hello they see you everyday and night! LOL
Used to be a take your daughters to work, so females could see what goes on in the work place. Then the boys got in on the action!
I work at my hair barber shop, so they come there already and know about it. But when their dad got a new job at our county transportation company, they did a big *Take your child to work* But schools really frown upon it bc the schools do not receive money for the child gone. Husbands work had the name badges, lunches, they got to ride the bus or light rails and do hunts along the way.
Then budge crisis happened and the program got cut! But the kids went a couple of times, so they got to see how it all worked!
I think bring your kid to work day is a great thing. Here, a lot of local CBS people brought their kids as did the police department. Not working now, I really miss those days. At my former place of employment, they had an entire day planned for the kids, 9 and up, starting with employee badges. Different engineers, cost controllers, schedulers, admins, etc. were assigned to talk to them. They ended the day seeing how it all comes together with the start up of a refinery. Those of us without kids were allowed to bring one. I brought my Godson two years in a row since his mom's place didn't really do that much for them. He is 17 now and still talks about those days.
