The best gift my love could give me is for him to say 'I've quit smoking.'

Ideally - a HOUSE!

More realistically - TRAVEL!

Most likely - flowers.

Least likely, but desired - a silly little card for no good reason.

To finish tiling the table that has been in the garage for 1+ years.
To finish the leaky faucet that has been leaking for 1+ years.
To take care of the broken tree branch that came down during last year's winter storm.

For him to arrange EVERYTHING.  Arrange a babysitter for the weekend, make the reservations, and just whisk me away.  I'd be happy with a short trip to somewhere else in Texas....just some time away would be wonderful.

I'm with i&b Ken and I didn't meet until later in life and I'm pissed off about it. I wish we had met YEARS ago. However, had we met years ago - we may not have been as ready to love and get along as well as we do. But TIME is it!

Hmmm... I am so used to NOTHING until Chris came along, I don't know! A pony?  Hmmmm...

A short weekend trip to a nice area would be good.  I can't really think of anything!

Hm ... I think I tend to get most excited about cool gadgets and electronics, though flowers, jewelry, and all those things you mentioned are nice, too, but I think they need to be given more sparingly to really be appreciated.

As for things like romantic vacations and dinners, I think those are best planned together rather than "gifts" ... I mean, I'm sure a surprise, if planned well, could be nice, but in general, it will probably work out better to do that sort of thing together, especially when the funds are coming from a joint account! When we go out somewhere, I always think of it as us "going out", not me being "taken out". I've always thought that phrasing is a bit odd ... doesn't come naturally to me.

Time and effort can be great gifts, too. My birthday was just a couple of weeks before our wedding, and I was so busy and stressed, and I still needed to get some camera accessories (extra battery and memory cards) for the honeymoon. So that was my birthday present from my husband-to-be. Even though it wasn't a surprise or exciting, it was the right gift, because what I needed at the time was not excitement, but the ability to cross things off my list!

Time.  Mr. Ingy and I didn't meet and marry until we were in our 40s and we both feel we missed out on a good 20 years together.  What I wouldn't give to have had that time with him. We hope to both live to a ripe old age so we can maybe make up for it on that end.
