The family is young (for a Presidency anway), they're good-looking, and they may very well be the first minority family in the White House. Of course the media will be all over it like Lindsay Lohan on leggings.

AND, especially since Obama and his family have been the target of smear campaigns that border on racism, it's smart for them to go to the media to dispell rumors and falsities. I'm sure McCain and his wife would do the same thing.

Just Looking, I think you're trying to create more controversy that isn't needed. God, I can't wait for November to get here.

Hmm, let's see....you have a YOUNG good looking family with the cutest kids.  On the other hand, you have a 70+ guy and his older wife.   Now think, which family cover would you figure could sell the most magazines....a young, vibrant family or an old couple?  Unless it's the AARP magazine, I'm betting on the Obama family as the big selling point.

My question is, who had the time to look for and post all these photos?

  • I don't know ... It's probably not that hard. I'm sure a Google Image search would come up with a lot of them. And there are probably websites out there that collect this stuff. You'd be amazed at how much time my husband and I are capable of spending looking up stuff online. Some of us have that type of personality ... something catches our attention and we search, search, search ... As for composing the post, it appears that this individual had the image references auto-generated, so it probably wasn't that hard. Either way, I don't see that there's anything wrong with it. I mean, people spend lots of time posting pictures of Britney Spears and the like around here. Doesn't interest me, but if someone enjoys it, it does no harm. eom--RK
  • Lets face it - we're living in an insane asylum being run by the inmates. We are all doomed. Kat
  • RK I have absolutely no problem with someone taking their time to do this. I do a lot of research online also but mostly use it for good.~~sandy
  • And as far as getting information on something or solving something I am relentless, somewhat like a ferret. And I like ferrets.~~sandy
  • I like ferrets, too. :-) Sorry, I thought your comment was a criticism, and as I mentioned to ingy below, I tend to be sensitive to that sort of thing. Nevermind. Carry on ... eom--RK
  • Nope RK not a criticism, we're good. : ) sandy

It's inevitable! It's an election year and he is a Presidential candidate-his family possibly the future First family of the U.S. They have all the makings of a good magazine cover story; he's young has a great relationship with his wife, has two young children, he would  be the first African American in the white house etc. Add to that, his message of hope and change to a country that is craving both and voila!

It's JFK and Jackie all over again and America (The world?) is fascinated.

why? nothing wrong with it! IT is bc they are young, good looking, hip and cool so there you are!

There have been plenty of photos and magizines of the Bush's their daughters, the extended families when they ran, of the Clintons, Cindy McCain. Nothing wrong, I enjoy seeing all of it! BTW they did not pose for those Hawaii pictures that was long lenses on a camera taking shots at them! On their vacation, no privacy!

I hope you and others are not implying that it is part of some bigger master plan. Becuase I have heard people imply or speak (even a customer here, and I about fell over) that Obama is so popular and has these big speeches where lots come and even in Germany many came they = that to Hilter and how he was so popular. I pray you and others are not even going down there. That would be a very sad state that people would even think these thoughts bc Obama is different!

If its just the celeb thing that bothers you then don't buy the magaizines, that is what People, Us, Star are hoping you do!

    Replies: (list all replies)

  • I don't think there's a big master plan. I just think most presidential candidates are full of themselves, and from what I've seen, Obama is no different. It's nothing that bothers me too much, as it is to be expected, but it's kind of funny ... What annoys me more is that they are *given* the attention, but like you said, I don't have to buy the mags (which I don't). eom--RK
  • Why I brought that up bc I don't know who is posting this but I have heard ppl say and think that. I do not of course but many do think he has a *Master Plan* that scares me. BTW RK I may not always agree with your post but you always come across calm, nice and fair. I see you looking at both sides, appreciate that! ~~Bonk~~

Now let's see you post a topic with all John McCain's magazine covers and photos.  And don't forget Cindy McCain and her fashion spreads.  I guarantee there's plenty of the McCains to go around.

    Replies: (list all replies)

  • Don't forget McCain's Saturday Night Live appearances. Al Gore had a couple of those, too. And Bob Dole seemed to love doing the comedy circuit, though in his case, it was after he lost the election, so it was a bit different. No doubt about it, they all love the limelight ... I honestly don't believe anyone who doesn't crave attention can make it to the presidency these days. eom--RK
  • ITA, RK. Publicity is part of running. ~i&b
  • My point was about the Obamas...they have been posing for every magazine ...the McCains have not , you can't deny that......the Obamas are everywhere...the first magazine with their US interview (which is a gossip rag) is tacky IMO
  • ps it is my opinion and that is just it...you seem to attack anyone who has an opposing opinion regarding the Obama's in every political post...I agree to disagree, we all have different opinions and I notice they are plastered in every magazine, how can you not see that, they pose for pictures and give inteviews and have been putting their children on tv and these magazines....I would have left the children out of the spotlight as much as possible, also the Obamas should have been focusing on the politics not their personal lives in every mag....just my opinion.
  • And the point most other people here are making is: So what? The man's running for office and is getting a lot of free publicity and so is McCain. McCain is making the rounds on the comedy shows, I guess that means he thinks he's a celebrity, too. Why don't you spend more time worrying about the issues instead of something as trivial as magazine covers? ~i&b
  • To be in a magazine you are usually asked to be unless they are shots taken without your permission. No offense, but what is the appeal of seeing McCain? The beauty about magazines is that you can leave them on the stand at the store :-) Lisa P
  • I will disagree with one thing in your post, i&b, and that is your recommendation to the anon as to what to worry about. While I agree that this stuff is normal and no big deal, I don't see any harm in someone making a post criticising them about it. This, too, is a part of celebrity. Some people make fun of you, criticise you, etc., while others idolize you, and others are in between. I see no reason to take offense, and while I personally believe that McCain would be on as many covers if people were as interested in photographing him, I see nothing wrong with the anon's post. Hm ... this response was a bit longer than I had planned. Guess I'm just sensitive to people suggesting that the subjects of their posts are not worth mention. There are times I've posted things that have rubbed people the wrong way and they've responded by saying that there are bigger things to post about. So what? Sometimes we want to focus on smaller things. I say, post away, good and bad, trivial and substantive, when it comes to the candidates ... just don't attack each other. eom--RK
  • I'd get sick to death of seeing McCain too!!! I'm sick to death of ALL of them! Kat
  • I don't think the Obama's are one bit good looking. Kat
  • Now, Bill & Hillary, on the other hand... HAHAHAHAHAA!!! Kat
  • Yes, RK, you're right. If this is the kind of stuff people want to base their votes on that's their right. But personally, I think it's ridiculous to focus on such fluff when you consider the current state this country is in. And part of that is the fault of the media because this is the kind of kerap the cover instead of something that actually matters. ~i&b
  • Kat, Barack may just be a scrawny kid (like he says) but Michelle is tall and striking looking and the kids are so cute! IMO, Bill and Hillary when they ran ( in their 40's) were very good looking also! imo again! ~~Bonk~~
  • Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Personally, I think they are a nice looking family. The kiddos are too cute for words. Again, it's just an opinion. I've been told I am ugly, fat, too thin, pretty, and somewhere in between. LOL!!! Again, the wonderful thing is that we can have these opinions and in the end who cares? I think ingy said it best when she said we have bigger things to worry about. *I* for one, was in tears hearing Michelle's speech last night, because it made me remember how lucky I am to live in this country where we have choices and where there is hope. The fact that Obama is even in the running (and Hillary was too) gives so many kids from different backgrounds out there *hope* they can too be anything some day. Lisa P
  • i&b -- But we don't know that anyone here is basing their votes on this stuff. Perhaps it's just something that some find interesting. Perhaps it's something that they don't like about Obama, but they'll vote for him anyway. Or maybe they already knew they weren't voting for him for other reasons. Again, there's really no harm. I agree with you that there are bigger issues out there, but we can't spend all of our time focusing on big issues. There are many aspects to these candidates and if a small issue catches someone's attention and they choose to post about it, why isn't that OK? As for the media, well, I completely agree with you there. I heard something on the radio about what people were wearing at the convention. Talk about trivial. But you know, if some poster takes an interest in that and wants to post about it, that's fine with me. It's not a good topic for the news, but for a message board, sure, why not ... eom--RK
  • That was supposed to be a joke. I think Michelle is gorgeous. Barack, on the other hand does NOT appeal to me in the looks department! LOL! Kat

  • I am so with you Kat, it can't be over soon enough. I live in Denver, land of the DNC, and have avoided the TV this week like the plague. I don't want to watch the DNC or the RNC, because it is all hype and propaganda to get votes. I can't stand ANY politicians at this point, they eat their young! The last thing I heard, before my media ban, was that Hillary supporters may vote for McCain, so that she can have one more run at the Democratic nomination in four years, before she is too old... Mandy
  • I much prefered Hillary over Barack. Can't stand this man. Can't put my finger on it...well, I guess I could but if I stated MY reasons, there would be a board war. So my lips are sealed. I give up. I'm done. Kat

No need to be anonymous. It's not like the Obamas are reading this board, and I hope my fellow posters will agree with me when I say that there are worse things than making negative comments about presidential candidates on a message board. (I know, I know, there are people here who do seem to take these things quite seriously. I'm just trying to encourage the opposite attitude.) Anyway ...

Well, to be fair, I don't think you need their permission to put a photo on the cover of a magazine or write an article about them ... but I do agree that they seem to be enjoying the limelight. Not that that's different from most high-profile politicians. Frankly, I doubt that anyone who *doesn't* enjoy the limelight would -- or could -- run for president today.
