I tried to post this earlier... but seem to be having a posting problem... so I'll try again!

Are you a woman? If so, chances are you are now experiencing, or "peri" experiencing, or will be someday experience MENOPAUSE.

Ladies - this is for you!

I will celebrate my 45th this summer. I started peri-menopause a couple of years ago. Crazy periods. Insomnia. Mood swings. MAJOR depression. Weight gain. Bleh.

My doctor (ob/gyn) put me on a birth control pill called YAZ. I took it straight for 3 months, then had a period - a very LIGHT period - for one or two days! - then back on the pill for 3 months. I had NO pms! NO cramps! NO headaches, backaches!! All my crazy problems just disappeared! So of course, I said YAY FOR YAZ!!!

Please keep in mind that I have never smoked. Been mostly healthy my whole life. Yo-yo dieter (bleh!). But generally in good health.

Most of you know this part: After one year on that pill, & praising it left & right & upside down..... last year, I developed blood clots in my lungs. I WAS LUCKY TO BE ALIVE. Doc said that 75% of people who develop PE (pulmonary embolism) find out about it when they're getting an autopsy! So yeah, I'm very lucky to be alive. I was on blood thinners (coumadin aka warfarin) for a little over 6 months. I was on a heprin (sp?) drip while in the hospital, in ICU. I had to give myself shots in the stomach. It was no picnic, that's for sure!

The medicine, which is basically RAT POISON (no I'm not kidding!), saved my life. But OMG... That medicine made me SOOOOOO tired. I didn't have enough energy to paint my toenails! No kidding! - I was barely able to just get up & go to work each day! I went to bed around 7:30 or 8:00 every night! -and due to that fact, didn't exercise... just didn't have the energy AT ALL! - and gained even MORE weight. Disgusting, I tell ya! But hey! at least I'M ALIVE!

I am off the coumadin now, & once again, according to my lung doc, "in good health."

It has been determined that it was the pill that brought on the PE. Doc said no more birth control for me - EVER. In fact, NO MORE ESTROGEN product for me - EVER. Ok... whatever... So.... NOW WHAT??? Because alllll my perimenopause symptoms are back...

WITH A VENGEANCE!!!

Well THANK GOD... a friend told me about a website that is operated BY WOMEN DOCTORS. It is FOR WOMEN who are either in menopause or perimenopause. It's called womentowomen.com and they specialize in ALL menopausal symptoms, and they treat it NATURALLY.

I have been on the supplements for a couple weeks now, & the difference is AMAZING! Night sweats? GONE. Mood swings? HARDLY! Insomnia? WAY LESS! Crazy cravings? NOPE! And while I haven't noticed a change with my weight just yet, many women report it helped them to start losing weight after YEARS of battling the bulge!

Now granted... It's not cheap, but OMG it's worth it! - I urge you all to AT LEAST go to the site & check it out. I'm a fairly skeptical person when it comes to these things, & I have to say that I am SO GLAD my friend told me about that site!

It is also good for women who would like to get OFF the hormonal train, since the synthetic hormones have been proven to be a likelihood in the cancer role.

So please... do yourself a favor... tell your mothers, your daughters, your sisters, your cousins, good friends, & co-workers!!! - and please just visit the site! You don't have to try anything if you don't want to!

Good luck to you all - and remember... WE ARE WOMEN, HEAR US ROAR!!!

Oh how scary Ding.  I was on BCPs for exactly one month, two months ago, due to my terrible perimenopausal symptoms.  However, I read many, many stories just like yours about blood clots.  So I dumped the pills and am now using natural progesterone cream.  I love it!  My PMS is almost non existent.  It has only been a month, but I started feeling better about 2 weeks after I started using it.

DING...I'm glad that's helping you. Just make sure you tell your doctor the name of everthing you're taking and what the ingredients are...especially if you're on other medications. Very important...

That sounds like a horrible ordeal!  I'm glad you're recovered.  Like you said, you're lucky to be alive.

I'm really starting to wonder what I'm in for as far as the PM and M thing go.   I used to experience such severe monthly pain as a teenager that I'd often pass out.  Then in my later teens/20s, that went away and I never even had cramps anymore.  No mood swings or irritability either, just an increase in appetite and a little bloating.  I had all but forgotten what the whole cramp thing was like.  But now in my later 40s, I'm starting to get them again.  But it's different this time -- I go from absolutely normal with zero pain to doubling over in the blink of an eye.  And then it stops as suddenly as it started and I'm fine until the next month.

It happened again today about noon.  I was at my desk getting ready to go to lunch, and WHAM!  Suddenly, I was in such intense pain I wasn't sure my legs would work to walk.  I was shaky, light-headed and starting to feel nauseaus.  After about 10 minutes ~POOF~ it was over with just like nothing ever happened, and I felt great again.  How strange!

  • Do you have heavy periods? sometimes it the linning shedding more then usual that causes that great pain. I have always been irregular. Now my periods only come every 4 to 5 months which is nice,,,,,but when they come oh my gosh! Last month I had to leave work early, I NEVER did that with a period. They are so heavy bc all that linning is building up, and the pain is so bad! ME, who hardly ever had cramps. Very light, now this. It is worse then having a monthly cycle. Yes, light head, shakey, sick to tummy, back aches all part of it! And my hubby better stay away!! LOL ~~Bonk5~~
  • Nope, mine are practically non-existent. Extremely light. Which begs the question of WTH is going on! ~i&b

My gosh!  I had no idea you had been so sick.  I am sorry for that.  I hope you are doing much better; besides the hormonal junk.

I know I am starting the peri-menopausal.  I have horrible mood swings, anxiety, not sleeping, cravings.  Yuck!  I am doing LA Weightloss so that helps my weight gain.  As far as the rest I am taking a mineral/vitamin drink which helps.

Well hope you feel back to your normal self soon!!!!
