Additional Comments: Lately! I just bought some Mucinex that is worth more than freaking gold and gold prices are up, lol!

Twenty-eight dollars for 24 tablets, plus my drivers license and all identifiable information, lol.

WTH! I am so glad my sinus problems are only seasonal.

I finally went to my doctor and said "YOU ARE WRITING ME A PRESCRIPTION!!!"  It's cheaper for me to take RX Allegra and Flonase ($5.00 each after my $100 deductible per year which I meet with my prescription anxiety meds one time) than it is to take ANYTHING else..... Last allergy season he says "By OTC ClaritinD- it will do the same thing...."  Yeah.....at about 10X the cost!! No thanks!!!

Dollar General has mucinex (the D.G. brand) for a good price ($4 for a 30 pack here). I haven't seen it with decongestant there though.

  • I am all for anything that makes it harder for people to make meth. They are probably getting it from elsewhere if they don't make it and usually they find a way around the sudafed limitations anyway but if it stops one person from making meth with their babies in the house, it's worth it to me. I hate meth with a passion. I've seen it's effects on my friends and family and I hate it. Lilia
  • It has not cut down on the number of meth lab busts, as far as I know. Unfortunately even dumb people are smart and have a way of getting around any new law. cgem eom
  • I think once it's computerized it will start to help out a little. As a whole, I don't know that the laws regulating pseudophedrine have cut down on meth labs but I do know that it harder for people to have meth labs because of it. There are ways to get around the system but I know for a fact people have gotten arrested (and rightly so) for buying several boxes of sudafed. It's not a computerized system right now (at least not in my state) so people can still go to store to store. Eventually, it will be harder to do that. Lilia
  • By computerized system, I mean a sytem that every single store in the country that sells pseudophedrine is linked up to and so it is clear how much pseudophedrine people have bought. Not being able to get sudafed is a major blockade in a meth making process. Lilia

Mucinex is expensive but it really works.  When I recently had the sinus crud for 2 weeks, I took Mucinex 12-hour extended tabs for a whole week and it prevented me from getting a sinus infection, which is what usually happens to me.

So I figure a bottle of Mucinex is cheaper than a trip to the doc and antibiotics, any day.

Mucinex isn't behind the pharmacy counter here, just sudafed containing products.  Oh, you may have bought Mucinex-D, which has sudafed in it.  I just get the straight mucinex.

I totally disagree with the 'sudafed behind the pharmacy counter/show ID' law.  Oklahoma was the first state to pass it.

And guess what?  Have the arrests for meth use gone down?  NO!!!  Now meth heads just buy the stuff ready made, generally from Mexico.  A lot of drug dealers/drug trafficers have increased incomes, since it's harder to make meth at home.

But just as many people use it as before.  People who want to abuse a substance, will do it no matter what.

  • I agree with you, Carissa, where there is a will, there will always be a way. And, yes, it does work., very well. cgem eom

Gabby uses sudafed.  It is a pain in the rear to get!  I honestly don't know how they think taking your ID works.

Since we live so far from town, when she needs it, I get the limited ''one'' box.  Mother gets another.  Then if we went to another store, we could do the same thing.  And if Gabby or Wool happened to be with us, they could do the same thing.

But I can't drive back to town 10 days later for another box.  Besides, there are something like 12 to the box.  One per day.  How is that suppose to last a month?

  • I've wonder that too. Maybe they are networked and if your name shows up more than once in 24 hours a blue uniform will show up at your door, lol. cgem eom
  • I know people who have got arrested for attempting to manufacture a controlled substance by going around from store to store doing that. If I remember right, they had less than 10 boxes when they got caught. I know you aren't doing that (obviously) but the people I know that were arrested were going to use it to make meth. The system isn't networked yet (I don't think) but it will be someday. I can see how it's hard on you, living so far out of town. Lilia

Due to teenagers abusing Mucinex and similar medicines (they crush it and snort it), many drug stores are now requiring ID and/or have stopped selling it over the counter for purchase.

I have sinus problems and now dealing with pollen allergies, so I have to take both Sudafed and generic Claritin. I haven't been asked for any ID yet.

  • I had no clue the kids snorted the actual meds, I thought they used it to make crystal meth. Certain drug makers opted to change their formula so they could still be purchased with out ID, those must be the ones you are purchasing...not sure. cgem eom
  • Many teens will snort anything these days. Last week, a girl got caught snorting crushed Adderall up her nose in class at a high school 15 minutes away from my town. She got it from another girl who was suspended for distributing the drug. Chewbacca

I use prescription nasal spray like Rhinocort or Nasonex, but over the counter, I just buy generic decongestants. I get the 96 pack of Walphed from Walgreens LOL! It is $9.99. I really only have to use it if I get a sinus headache, otherwise the nasal spray does the trick!

Now if they could come up with something for my voice.....

  • I was listening to the news early and they say don't whisper, that is actually harder on your vocal chords than talking. A friend recommended the mucinex it seems to be doing the trick. cgem eom
  • yeah, whispering is definitely not good. Strains the vocal folds. eom Kri
  • Geez, that should be ''earlier'' and ''it's'', lol. Proofreading my own work never works until it's too late, lol. cgem eom

well, if you don't take all of it you can then start your ''dream meth lab!''  well, i guess you'll need more ingredients like bleach and shoe polish and horse manure or whatever else is in it.

I hope you feel better soon.

  • Horse manure? That's just freakin' scary! I'll be better as soon as the trees stop blooming...thanks. cgem eom
